About me

Contrary to popular belief, I am NOT and never was behind the illustrious Sellacat persona. I don't know who is, but please be assured, it is not me.

Music is as essential as air, for me. I'm a "techno-hippie," involved in music and dancing and folk music things on the weekends, outdoors whenever possible, and dug down deep into computers, digital and web graphic design and geeky things the rest of the time. I also have a broad range of other creative and literary activities in the spaces between. My lovely boy cat Oscar has his own profile, over here.

I listen to nearly everything -- rock, folk, electronica, latin, old jazz, broadway tunes, hip hop, big band, blues, classical -- sing it, dance to it, drum it, drive to it, cook with it, work to it. Air, like I said... no music, no me. In my view, we are only on this planet for two reasons: to love and to create.

I've been writing lyrics with the amazing SAB artists Caya. Please visit them and listen to the incredible guitar playing and song writing and vocals - it has been a dream come true to have this collaborative opportunity for my writing.

I've got a good sense of talent and potential, having been around it all my life. In my dreams, I get a big load of money from somewhere and spend it managing, marketing and nurturing amazing musicians... and here with Sellaband, I can "find" and nurture and support amazing musicians worldwide without having the rich relatives ;)

:¦:-◆-:¦:-★-:¦:-◆-:¦:WHILE LISTENING TO SAB:¦:-★-:¦:-◆-:¦:-★-:¦:

I'm a professional web and graphic designer, as well as a published freelance writer, living in upstate NY but am often working virtually for people around the globe. At heart I'm an entrepreneur, most often self employed. I'm particularly interested right now in writing, multimedia, instructional technology and human-computer interface design. If I can find a way to connect all some or all of those aspects with music or traveling... ahhh... I would think I died and went to heaven!

:¦:-◆-:¦:-★-:¦:-◆-:¦:-★-:HOW SHE INVESTS:-◆-:¦:-★-:¦:-◆-:¦:-★-:¦:

SPECIAL NOTE to those on my wish list. My believing budget is zero at the moment. I hope to resume soon. Meanwhile, I will continue adding outstanding artists to my wishlist and support them in other ways. My wishlist is in no particular order.

As a general rule, I don't respond to comment spam. In fact, I often delete it on sight.

What is comment spam? Basically, if I don't know who you are and you've left me a comment telling me to come listen to you (in fact, the same comment you cloned on 1,205 other believers pages), that is a comment spam. Bye bye! But if I find you on my own and/or you're already on my wish list, you're safe from my delete button.

Why delete this comment spam? Well, think about it - first, it's proof you didn't even read my profile! ;) And, what sense does it make for me to believe in someone who just has their hands out for money?  Be creative about it! SAB lets you connect with believers and investors. Show me who you are, that you are authentic, and you have what it takes and I will find you, hear you and pay attention.

I periodically give a listen to the artists who I see are workin' the Sellaband way, and decide if I like and want to support them. I also listen to the SAB jukebox often. I search and I browse around - but mostly I pay attention to who the artists I support and believers I admire are supporting - and I read the reviews that are written. If I like your music but have no funds to give, I'll  put you on my wish list.  At the moment, I'm only able to believe when I see you're getting close to the goal. I'm sorry about that!

It means I  believe you, as a group or individual, have what it takes to go all the way and I hope to have a little piece of you :) I only wish I had more spare $$ to go around because this is one of the best Internet models I've seen since my arrival on the web in 1995. Bravo to the brilliant minds behind SAB!

Have fun. I'm listening!

My Blog

Here's whats been floatin' my boat lately on SAB, in some relative order to when I discovered it:

  • I'm not crazy about rap but I do love west African music so I had to have a listen to Andre Majesty. I particularly like the Racine song with the kora... I hope he does well here and finds a wider audience.
  • Well! An acapella singing one woman act who performs with a garden gnome named Erwin on stage with her. Steal My Kisses is a rolickin' good tune - Frolein Da Capo is unlike anyone you'll ever encounter. Her F' Off Song is pretty funny, too. I hope she sticks to the acapella stuff, because it simply works. I'm looking forward to more from this kooky lady.
  • As much as I want the song I co-wrote with Casper to win the Sommersby holiday contest, Lori Greco's song, Spirit of Christmas, is absolutely stunning. What a voice. What I don't understand is why she just isn't already world famous and on the radio all the time because she sure sounds like she should be.
  • I like Willlow (Telepathy) because she's different. But I *really* like her seasonal song -- it reminds me of a Loreena McKennett tune, and I love Loreena.
  • As a general rule, rock bores me. It all sounds alike. Most rock bands are trying to sound like someone they heard on the radio. Blah. But, the truth is, I want to be rocked. Hard. And when I find someone that is doing it different, uniquely, creatively - I stand up and pay attention.  This is rare. On that note, I give you Skin Diary.
  • Jon Curtis... read his blog, and then have a listen. Amazing.
  • Was listening to the jukebox for new artists, while washing the dishes and wow, there is a lot of talent here still to be discovered! I dropped my dish rag to come see more about Klonakilty because I really love celtic influenced music, and came back again when I heard Monsieur Cannibale (now that's a band name!) because they have a really pleasant and interesting sound, and the singer has a lovely voice.
  • Just gave my Concert at the Sea vote to So What. They're not just tight as hell and talented, I'm just so impressed with their energy and enthusiasm and barely out of high school... I also get a kick out of how they perform in suits. Every time I hear them, I think ... just imagine... the future ahead is so promising for them.
  • Susan Zeegers... WOW. I just found her and I'm totally hooked. Just the kind of music I love, love, LOVE. Looking forward to a lot more from her!
  • Been slowly absorbing the sound of Mooncrow lately. His lyrics are melancholy but there is something so pure about the ability to put emotion into words, and authenticity into a song, that I find myself drawn to it. I'm still trying to get my mind around his voice, too... its like this little tickle in my mind that says "he sounds like..." but I can't find the answer.
  • I like unique and I like surprises - and I got both with DanNy. I didn't expect this kind of folk sound out of a guy who looks like a rocker - and was struck by how interesting his voice was. Looking forward to more from him.
  • Pieps pointed out Velez to me and WOW - this is seriously wonderfully luscious music... makes me want to pack my bags and sail away
  • Maitreya has a new song, Been Around, that just swept me away ... is there any cooler hip hop artist in the WORLD?
  • The amazing Ant, of one man wonder band Outrance, created a new song called "You Are" that I instantly fell deeply in love with. Talk about getting under my skin... check out some of the direct links on his profile for more.

I picked up some of this beautiful music over on AmieStreet and it has been stuck in my head continuously for days. Since this is all instrumental music, that is okay, I can still work...but it makes me want to swirl around the kitchen, waltz when I am vacuuming the house, and sway when I'm at the market, thats all. I have no idea how anyones fingers can do what is happening on the guitar here but I'm seriously impressed with every composition.

I've been part of the Wetwerks (re)evolution since the beginning. A dedicated music lover with eclectic tastes myself, I'm not one to say something rocks if it doesn't - and frankly, to see in action just what passion, dedication and talent goes into the making of this music - how can I not believe?

I realize its a long road for anyone on SAB, even those in more "popular" genres, but I truly believe in this music, in what Rasha can do with the guitar, and Goran's arrangement and production skills. I've listened to my downloads from Amiestreet so many times that it has become a regular part of my life, and the soundtrack in my head. I've shared it with as many people as will listen and will continue to.

Because, this is true music, at it's most beautiful...
Outrance Outrance 30.01.08 1
What do I say about Outrance when most of the time his music just leaves me speechless? That he's a one man act doing all of what he does in a home studio is amazing to me. That he seems to be this constant bubbling over fermentation of creativity leaves me awestruck. And the music... you have to hear it to believe it. One young guy, way down under that the whole world will hear some day if they're lucky.
JON ROBERT - As heard on MTV's "The Hills" and "The Real World" JON ROBERT - As heard on MTV's "The Hills" and "The Real World" 29.01.08 1
His songs and performance are of a caliber that you would expect to already be on all the radio stations being played to death. Having seen him live, I'm even more blown away. Great, really great stuff... and a superb investment for anyone with the money to do so.

There is nothing I love more than a hard rock spankin' with a tribal beat. And a female lead, too? Phew. These guys (and gal) are incredible - I listened to their player three times around just absorbing the percussion into my soul. And I LOVE the packaging. The logo, the pictures, omg, the video is crazy... what did you think I meant? Oh, yeah, well, that too *wink*

Another one that grew on me... first time it didn't strike me and then I heard them on the jukebox much later and thought - wow, who is that?! So I'm going to keep an eye (ear) on them to see what else they do... they're a very tight band and professional, with a lot of potential.

Love it, LOVE it! I'm loony over this kind of ethnic music... I've actually danced to this sort of gypsy jazz/swing and ...oh, what fun it is! Hot Club of Hungary is VERY good - the real deal! Not the sort of thing you find in the mainstream and certainly not much else like it in SAB.

A big warm hello!

and just a note to tell you that I have a new song I would love you to hear. It is a crazy, revved up remix of my serene "Angel" and completely different from the original. It is totally unusual for me too - like a happy accident really, but very sensuous with exotic notes of the orient and I really wanted to share it here. It will add spice to a great night out on the town or make you want to dance with someone real close. Or at least that's what it makes me feel, so I thought I'd play it for you. It was born out of too many late nights of passionate brainstorming in the studio. So please listen for yourself and let me know what you think. if you like it jump on board and i will give you the song to have for your own '-)

peace, love and music
