my name is vincent gabriel - aka - blind albert - i've been in the music business since 1964 - started playing guitar - singing and writing music back when the beatles and rolling stones were just becoming known here in the united states.spent a year in the jungles of vietnam as an infantry soldier with the 1st infantry division as a point man during the 1968 tet offensive - now this bit of personal history might not mean much to most of you here on sella band - but it's very relevant as far as the song 1968 is concerned - 1968 - is from a cd i released in 2000 titled "11 bravo vietnam" - parts of this cd were used in a national public radio "soundprint" interview i did titled "vietnam blues" - the complete cd is the soundtrack to a documentary i've produced titled ("11 bravo vietnam - a soldiers story") - which is posted in it's entirety on this site and my myspace site at www.myspace.com/blindalbert - all songs from my "11 bravo vietnam" cd and others are posted on my www.noisehead.com/mypage/blindalbert -- all songs were written about my experiences in combat in vietnam - i like to think of them as small musical movies - listen to them and imagine''' - these are real songs written from experience - from the soul - not slick run of the mill cabon copies of the same old same old we've all come to know and love.not that there's anything wrong with those type of songs.
some may ask --why i would post a song like 1968 on a music site like this- it's not a highly produced or pristine sounding song - it's actually the demo - this song is about war - war is not slick - pretty - or pristine - unless you've been living in a hole for the past six years and have no idea what's going on in the world - there's a war or two going on - i feel this song and others from the "11 bravo cd are very relevant with the times we now live in - do i think people are going to buy into what i'm doing - believe in me - garner fifty thousand dollars worth of support - i can't really answer that question - it's not about the money - although-that would help - it's more about exposing these songs to as many people as possible - would i like people to find these songs interesting - support what i'm doing ---yes''' - of course'' - the other two songs "gloria and ray" and "one way street" are from two of my latest cd releases - gloria and ray was written in honor of my cousin gloria and her husband ray - i wrote the song after being told that ray was diagnosed with parkinsons -the song was written 4 months ago - i just found out yesterday - 3/20/08 that ray passed away - the song is based on a relationship that started in 1959 - a true love story - two people meant for each other.the song "one way street" is a commentary of the world we now live in - being a vietnam veteran and having experienced combat - i have little patience for lies - corruption in our or any other government - war - and the fact that those higher ups don't give a damn about the people - the song speaks for itself. - enjoy - i welcome all comments - these are a few of many songs i've written and recorded - as time goes on i will replace and add more -
thanks - peace'''' - vincent gabriel - blind albert

Oh, and your documentary was really interesting.

Amazing stuff. Haunting vocals, complex rhythms, yet memorable melodies. Wishlisted until finances permit.
