The Bluescrowns is one of Europe’s finest blues bands. The band was formed at the end of 2003. Each band member has served the blues for two decades or more. The Bluescrowns first and foremost deliver the blues with conviction and ease across the wide stylistic spectrum of this music. The Bluescrowns put everything together, a sterling group of fine musicians who play it from the heart and demonstrate a mastery of ensemble playing that is fast becoming a lost art. They play the West Coast Blues; a foundation of Chicago Blues mixed with jazzy swing and a splash of retro rock ‘n roll and boogie. Their repertoire is a wide mix of originals and tunes of Willie Dixon, Art Neville and cats like Louis Jordan. Within one year the band managed to get across and were invited to many festivals and clubs. Recognition from both promoters and the keen listener became part of a fast rise in the European blues scene. All of the musicians have played in various combinations over the last twenty years. The Michigan Red Blues Band with frontman John “Michigan Red” Acker was one of the first recording blues bands in southern part of Holland in the eighties. This is where Paul Voestermans (guitar) and Joost Janssen (piano) stepped into the major league. After “Michigan Red” died in a tragic car crash, Henry, Paul and Joost formed Red Wagon and Are & Be. Daan Prevoo (vocals, saxophone, harmonica) one of the founders of the popular and recording blues bands D-Train and Doctor Rhythm has been performing with many blues artists like Lynwood Slim, Blues ‘n Trouble, Michael De Jong, Rosa King and Duke Robillard. Drummer Huub Schell and upright bass player Arno Vervest are one the finest on the scene. The Bluescrowns are true veterans with a feel for the idiom. Inspired by the artists and sounds down the long road of the blues The Bluescrowns perform with a strong nod to the past, while living and breathing in the present.
It’s the loose swinging rhythm section of drummer Huub Schell and bassist Arno Vervest that put down a solid groove for the shuffles and swings. Guitarist Paul Voestermans knows how to nail down the sound and tone in his own style that is definitely inspired by the greatest like Kid Ramos, Duke and other legendary guitarists. Joost Janssen is one of the few pianists who plays in a style that is identifiably linked to the classic era of blues and jazz piano. Frontman Daan “the saxman” Prevoo carries on the blues tradition. His raw talent and deep feeling for the blues have earned him recognition. Besides soulful vocals he blows and honks the tenorsax in various solo’s and unisono theme’s with the guitar. He learned to play the harmonica from one of the greatest; Lynwood Slim.
The Bluescrowns shared the stage with many international artists like Guy Forsyth, Sax Gordon, James Armstrong and Lynwood Slim and played the biggest European bluesfestivals. Their style is swinging and derived from a mixture of Rod Piazza and The Fabulous Thunderbirds. This extensively touring band won fans all over the country with blazing live performances.

Howdy!
Just wanted to pop in and give you a heads up on Sommersby's October Competition!
If you haven't already heard, the competition (hot on the heels of his recent neck-in-neck September fiesta) will offer 20 parts for the winner and is open to all artists that have between $9999 and $0 in budget.
Please check the forum for updates on contest rules and regs….starts 25 October!
This is a great opportunity for you. Campaign with the believers to let them know you'd like to be nominated and encourage them to vote for you when the time comes.
Of course, if you'd like to, or you know someone who would like to, donate parts for the prizes in the Competition, just send (or have them send) Sommersby the details under a message marked “October Donation."
Hope you join in on the fun and GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!!!
