With 110 believers and more than 40 songs, Chapter 9 is at 4060$ in budget
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Quotes:
"Not Only my Piece of Cake, but very much my Cup of Tea" (Adam Sieff)
"Beatle-esque to the hilt with a touch of good ol' Neil Young..." (Blues Rock Rich)
"Chapter 9 seem to be an enjoyable blend of the sounds of the Beatles, Radiohead and Damien Rice - but more importantly write the meaningful songs in the first place" Daniel Ward Murphy
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bio:
Chapter 9, based out of Paris, France, has created a unique type of alternative pop-folk music that is best described as a simplistic sound with many complex undertones.  Led by Marc Verwaerde, singer-songwriter and guitarist, Chapter 9 also encompasses the talents of guitarist Thibaut Pinchon, and bass player, Antoni Rougeaux, as well as a wide collection of various other musicians as songs warrant. Whether playing in bars and clubs around Europe or entertaining fans an ocean away through SellaBand and MySpace, Chapter 9 strives to touch the hearts and minds of its listeners.

The band’s name suitably came from the pages of Alice in Wonderland. Marc’s personal journeys while glancing through the looking glass have fueled multifaceted lyrics that reflect on everything from the wonder of childhood to the deep emotions that can be felt within adult lives. Drawing on influences such as Wilco, Pink Floyd, the Beatles, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, and The Jayhawks, Chapter 9 hits the mark every time, creating music that can range from deeply intellectual and beautiful, to fun and joyful.

Currently, Chapter 9 is supported by more than 100 believers on SellaBand. Additionally, Chapter 9 has released 2 EP albums: 5 Songs in March 2006 and A Piece of Cake in June 2007. Their latest album was recorded at Abbess Road Studios, a private studio in France, and has a quality equal to any signed artist.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
What are we planning to make with 50k$?
1. Record a proper album (12 songs)
2. Propose a great Limited Edition CD (If we can make it a vynil+mp3s with great artwork, it would be fantastic)
3. What are we planning to do next? Tour... Tour... Tour... Extensively!

Blog

Hey reader! here you'll be able to read bits of updates from time to time when I feel like telling you what's going on with Chapter 9 :)

OK, so here it goes!

June the 12th 2008
Happy. I am happy. Not only because my MySpace page has been revamped to suit my new ambitions (really really want to record an album with SellaBand!) but also because everything is going in the right direction. A friend of mine introduced me to a sweet guy named Aurelien, and he's keen enough to be willing to re-mix the song Cake! So, by the middle of July you'll be able to listen to a new version of the song. Plus, I'm planning to put some money in a video clip for the song. The video clip will be filmed this summer, and probably released in September / October. We hope that we can use this video clip for a little promotion. In the meantime, I'm working on my current material (you know the demos I've put up from time to time on my player!) and I'm fairly happy to say we're gaining new believers on a current basis. Sooner or later, we'll get there!

June the 5th 2008
Things have been a little slow lately, you know, it's like when you're surfing a wave but taking the time to breathe in between to rides. I'm currently working with our manager on getting a tour scheduled for the end of 2008 in Beligum, the Netherlands and the UK. This "tour" could make me learn a lot about what it is to really be a musician for real. I've never experienced this, but I'm thrilled just to think of it.

I'm used to travel. It has been my way of life since I was born, so it doesn't scare me at all. The only thing will be the audience. I still don't know how the people will react. I can only presume they might like what we do, but that's it!

This is a mixed feeling between excitement, joy, and a little fear, just like when you're taking a big step forward, and you're sure that it's for the best, but you can't help the urge to be scared a little ;)

When things get clearer as to this tour you'll be the absolute first to be informed. You know it by now ;)

Have a wonderful day you all!

Like a picture shot...

When I write lyrics, when I sing a tune, it's the smell of the places I've been, the atmosphere of an instant that I lived in the past that comes to my mind rather than a complete story that would from A to B and to C, etc. The whole songs then gather all those mixed feelings and form a whole story by themselves, for the listeners to enjoy. But the song is not a story I've experienced myself.

My latest tune, "There are Flowers on Your Shirt" goes this way too. I've been listening to it those past few days (I'm actually trying to mix it so you guys can have an exclusive listen & download session / believers only!). It's a concentrate of diverse experiences, such as the family annual gathering for Easter, and the snow that fell that day in the morning, through the window... mixed with the feeling of loss some of my closest ones have experienced at that moment, and the flowers everywhere... And a great feeling of fatigue after touring with Saibu in London.

The song was written in a hurry 3 weeks later, to shoot a picture of those memories. And in 10 years, I'll look back on my past with this song and remember all the connection my little soul made between all those experiences... I can't wait!

My Captain - The creation process story

OK, I thought for a second: what is it about Sellaband that makes it a special place for believers?
Is it the money? answer: N
Is it the fun? answer: Y, partly
Is it because you get a special special connection with the artists? answer: Y
Is it because you'd like to follow a band in their recording process? anwer: Y

and a big Y to the last question I think it is...

So... Here is, step by step, how we came to record the song "My Captain". Every Monday of the next 3 weeks I'll be sending an e-mail to all my believers explaining in full deep the story behind the creation of the song and the arrangements to My Captain, our 'rock' single!
You'll be able to know how we worked on that song, in order to figure out, how we currently work on the new material and how we will work on our Sellaband album.

Step in and become a believer, the story is worth the listen, and you'll be convinced to stick with us when you'll know everything about that peculiar song :)

Yours
Marc

<<<<<<<<<<< The old days of the Sellaband BLOG >>>>>>>>>>>>>

March the 12th 2008
Thanks so much to all of you who have joined the crew of new believers! It truly means a lot to me, and we'll welcome you with a new cover song of the Jayhawks who will be up soon for viewing on Youtube :D

First answer:
<< “Tut, tut, child!” said the Duchess. “Everything’s got a moral, if only you can find it.”
“and the moral of that is—‘Oh, ’tis love, ’tis love, that makes the world go round!’”>>

The FEBRUARY Original SONG is UP: MONKEY

Please check out our new song, Monkey. This song was recorded a while ago and needed some refreshing mixing. Which we have been working on for 2 months now... We've also re-recorded some parts that didn't sound awesome... Now, put your ear-plugs, listen to it closely... Many things will cross your brains... Let it ride!!!

I wrote this song in February 2005... A long time ago. When I showed it to the boys, they told me it wasn't good enough, that they couldn't understand it clearly... I was really disappointed but came back home and worked on it alot. That's the song I've worked on the most I think. When the final result really pleased me, I asked the boys for another audition. And I passed it...! When performing it, I forgot the lines for the 3rd verse, so I repeated "Your not the Monkey of My Living Circus" like a Mantra... Then they shouted: keep it like that, we like it like that!!! So I did.

I love this song... It's probably one of my favourites ever... I hope you'll fall in love with it too.

The cover song that I promised will come very soon as a video and I will keep you updated on that one shortly...

February the 15th 2008

The theory of crisis... to construct a new basis.. I think is a true theory.
Specially when you're involved in whatever creation process. My process is music. I express myself better with melodies and blurbs of lyrics than with a thousand words...

Well, I guess that it's our common point with Thibaut (the guitar player). Thibaut is one of my closest friends and has been playing the guitar and other things (keyboards, vocals) with me for 6 years now. The origins of Chapter 9 are due to our very very close collab'...

A few weeks ago, Thibaut decided he wanted to let me go further, alone, with Chapter 9. I was sad, but had a great respect for his decision. It was his choice. So, whatever the choices, I respect them, coming from very close friends. But... yesterday evening, we both realized we just couldn't end that collab' like that. It didn't make sense... We want to go in the same direction, and we're good at what we do together... So... Thibaut's back, with great ambitions for Chapter 9.

Chapter 9 is changing, from a band, it's turning into a project, where everything is centered on the music itself. What does it REALLY mean? It means that our passion will not be shown in our behaviour, or in our live appearances, it will be all condensed into our musical performances.

Our goal is to record an original song and a cover song per month. That is, in fact, an enormous task, which I'm glad to be able to handle. The songs we'll record will not just be "demos"... As we call them. We really want them to be as "finished" as possible. We are not taking the project into a top-notch production sound etc. More into the song creation and arrangement process. So... Peel the Peels is a finished song, isn't it?

So, here we are... Making music, recording music, putting it all on the web, certainly recording videos and animations that will be uploaded on youtube, facebook, everywhere.

What are your thoughts about that?

February the 10th 2008
A little update on Chapter 9's situation so far :)
I told you things were moving. Well, they are definitely moving, in the right direction. Now things seem to be a little slow at this time. The main reason is that the band is completely evolving: the drummer (Geoffroy) is leaving the band, and I'm replacing him with a new drummer.

Philippe Rinino will hold the drumsticks from now on. We've already rehearsed once, and so far, it's just brilliant how things are feeling stronger. Philippe has been playing drums for 30 years now, and you can feel it! Hopefully, we might be able to show you some recordings with Philippe... really soon

In the meanwhile and while we rehearse for the 6th of March, I'm preparing for my solo show @ the Motel on the 19th of Feb. If you're around please come and say hi!

Cheers to you all
Marc

January the 22nd 2008
Many things have happened since the beginning of this year, and I've been really busy. Many musical things first: I'm taking Chapter 9 to a new dimension, new dynamics, and hopefully I'll be able to tour a little more this year, to promote the music we make. Whether that be acoustic, electric, both, I don't know yet, it really depends on what I achieve. My aim is to find an "established" artist and present him my songs, and hopefully, tour a little with him. If funds are high, maybe I can do this with a full band. If it's kept to a minimum, it will be me on my own.

I really want to make this job, I'm more determined than ever. Slowly, but surely, I will be putting all the pieces together to create a "rolling stone" effect.

To begin with: an official and professional website. Why would I need a professional website? What would be the aim? Well, I definitely think that people need a common goal on the Internet, when they search for an artist. They need a contact point, they need a place where they can "feel" the artist's ideas, visions, where they can share their thoughts with him, etc. So that official website will be all about presenting myself to you all, with my thoughts, ideas, impressions, etc.

Second: A professional mailing system. I definitely need to send professional newsletter to all the people who like my music. So many people don't even know we've released a new album! It's a shame, and it will change!

Third: Build a team. I've asked some people to back me up for certain things I don't find the energy nor the capacities to deal with. Kristen will be working on an official biography for Chapter 9 and that's really cool of her. A friend of mine is working on the design and the graphics for the new website. I might also ask you guys to lend me your hands for stuff you are professional. Together, we can make it big. Last, I really need to find a co-worker that is ready to take on the responsibilities of getting us to tour more often, to name a few...

Fourth: Record more music. That's for sure. We need more songs, and more material, all the time. This is the 21st Century and the other bands are not waiting for us, they're releasing new albums every 3 months. We need to be more productive, more inventive. The more songs posted, the more buzz created.

That's it for now guys, I'll leave you with the tracks I've put here on this page... For the moment :-)

Cheers to you
Marc

January the 7th 2008
first of all, I'd like to wish you all a VERY happy New Year. May 2008 see the accomplishment of all your ambitious projects, be that in your families, in your professional life, in your cultural projects, etc.

I've just come back from Senegal (Africa) where I spent a week with my parents and Caro. Sun, sun, sun, aaaaah !

So... 3K! How does it feel? Well, it feels nice, to be honest :-) .
Kristen and I met in Paris at the end of 2007, and had dinner together with her husband Joe and my wife Caro. We had French wine, and French cheese, to Kristen and Joe's great pleasure! We made a little silly video for the 3K that you can view on our video tab if you'd like

I hope I can speak to you all very soon
Marc

December the 21st
I wish you all a merry merry christmas and a Happy New Year. I will be back on Sellaband by the 5th of January and I hope you will have a great time!
Cheers
Marc

December the 18th
As you may have already seen, I was really out of my mind for one week, trying to put things together for this bloody event @ la Flèche d'Or... Caro convinced me to still try to do it, because it would be too bad not to.
So here I am trying again.. :-)

December the 11th
Today we were mentioned in the Tribune, and it really warms me up with a new fuel of energy to... Kick ass on this platform!!! Sellaband, here I am, and me and my friends are going to rock this boat (softly) ;-)

December the 7th
You see... Victor is a good friend of mine and the name "Bellec" refers to the last name of some people in Caro's family. They're all coming over, investing parts in Chapter 9 ... Would this be our X-mas present? :-)
Anyway, it's great to have them all onboard.

December the 5th
TO HELL The cold dark days of winter!!!
Let's dance, eat Cakes, sing to the sun, to the pines, sing sing sing again
Bloody winter bloody winter

December the 3rd
Ah. Great, fresh blood on Sellaband! Ha ha!
That's nice! :-)

December the 1st
It's been a very busy week, both on Sellaband, trying to organize a Sellaband night in Paris (which is REALLY hard to handle and manage) and in the "real life". Contacting managers / Recording new songs / Mixing existing pieces of work / etc.
Only to find myself in a let down. 2 believers left the crew. I feel so sad about that. Mostly because I don't really know why they left: no explanation... sometimes makes it hard to understand, weirdly ;-)
Well, anyway, heads up and let's go and find some people who really DIG pop music!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bye bye for now

November the 29th
One year on Sellaband. Pfiou, that was quick!
Well, actually, I think I'm here since July 2007. Before, I was just one of the "hundred dollar bands"... You know. Now, I'm the 2K band!!! :-)
There might be some changes in the mp3 again at the beginning of December! I'll let you updated on this one!

November the 26th
Rediscovering Magma at the moment. Nice music :-) Jazz fusion from Kobaia!!!

November the 23rd
THANKS THANKS THANKS!!!
100 in 2 days!!! :-) Thanks to Laurent (of course ;-) ) and Li for increasing their parts. Thanks to Spierenburg for joining the family :-) !!!

November the 21st
DANCE DANCE DANCE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2K 2K 2K 2K 2K 2K 2K 2K 2K 2K 2K 2K 2K 2K 2K 2K 2K 2K 2K 2K
HURRRRRRRAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

Thanks to RICH for his WONDERFUL belief and the others!!!
We're gonna have a PARTY PARTY !!!

November the 20th
The progression is neat... Now that we have 57 believers, we're only a 100 believers far from the 10th artist on Sellaband... But anyway, our goal is not to be 10th in 10 days, or 2nd in 2 years, our goal is to reach out for new ears everyday... And that seems to be working quite well :-)

November the 19th
Hi all, this week begins so nicely, with 2 brand new believers joining in...!
The other thing that is great is that somehow tomorrow I'll be meeting the guys from Laixa... ! That'll be nice

November the 15th
I've just realised it's been three continuous weeks in the charts for us! How cool is that? THANKS all for your support it's AMAZING!!!

November the 14th
There is something going on that I'm not very happy with: Two weeks in the charts and no mention in the Tribune makes me sick. Some people are trying to keep us in the charts, they're pushing us FOR that, and Sellaband HQ don't feel it's necessary to say we're "new in the Charts"... For two following weeks...
Anyway, yesterday's show was fantastic, and I'll share some great pics with my believers and I'll post one in the photos tab!

AND Thanks Rich for coming by and dropping a few lines. Thanks to Martin too, it's nice to have you come to my profile now and then :-)

November the 13th
I'm currently listening to: Radiohead's latest album, David Mead's latest album and Robert Wyatt's latest album.
On a continuous loop: John Lennon's Imagine (the album, not the song), The White Album (Beatles, who else?), Neil Young Live at Massey Hall.
Tonight: SHOW!!! We'll spread a nice and warm acoustic sound in the audience!

November the 9th
How could I not post a thing on the Number 9 of a month?
Well, just to tell you that yesterday, Thibaut and I worked on the project of Soundtrack we have for a short movie, and things are moving quite fast. It's nice to have such a great connection going on between the two of us!
Am I sounding cheesy when I say that??? :-)

Just to tell you also that this week-end I won't be available, as I'm heading to Caro's parents house..; !

November the 7th
1600$! Another round number! Things are moving pretty fast, thanks to Laurent, Kristen and Thibaut!

November the 6th
33, say 33
33 Listens for In the Universe... Laurent and I are pushing Chapter 9 to the 2K$... If you want to jump in, please... I don't mind :-)
Oh and see? I've updated our presentation :-)

November the 5th
After a week-end with rehearsals, lots of talks about a new song of mine that has a "hit-potential", here is the beginning of a new week... I don't know why, but I feel like it's all getting on my nerves, you know, sometimes you just need to take your guitar and play... Well, the time is here, now.

So far, I've had 3 listens on In the Universe positionned as "first song" and still not any new believer :-) So I guess "Storm" was wrong :-) Na, I'll leave it longer, to test things, but, I don't know, I still think Cake! is more appealling, more "decisive" anyway... What do YOU think?

November the 2nd
Why not organize a believers-artists-holiday to Belle Ile? I've got a house there, I can organize something very special! So here it is: if you believe 50 parts or more in Chapter 9, you are WELCOME with open arms in February - March in Belle Ile! The program would be: Guitar playing, singing Cake and go for long walks, go to the bar in the evening, and sleeeep!

November the 1st
I'm having a blast on the forum. You know, sometimes the threads are always talking about the same thing over and over again, so I'll just answer what I think is best, but only with Beatles Lyrics. My preferred for the moment is : "Quando para mucho mia more de felice corazon
Mundo paparazzi miamore chicka ferdy parasol / Cuesto obrigado tanta mucho que can eat it carousel" from Sun King. It sums everything up really well lol

Well, anyway, we're in the charts, and that's nice. I've also decided to put Peel the Peels first, then In the Universe and then Cake. For a change...

October the 29th
Welcome onboard, Steven! It's really nice to count you in! And of course, of course, thanks to Laurent Caris for supporting us all the way up!!!

October the 26th
Raphael is a great friend of mine and the fact that he believes in Chapter 9 really means a lot to me! Thanks Raphael!!!

October the 25th
I'm still waiting for Mark's (Second Person) answer about the gig in February and then... I'll keep you informed! That would be so cool

October the 24th
I'm setting up a document to send out to journalists so they can speak about Sellaband. I hope I convince them!

And I'm first of my believer's list. Things are back on track :-)

October the 23d

A new song's up and here are the lyrics for this one !

Shiny day
With the windows shut and the sun not coming in
How do you want to tell it's a shiny day?
Go out, let the air come in, let this fear away,
People are born to walk and talk not to hide or stay...

*Great Whistling*

When I walk down the streets of my town
Everything I see is oh so close to the ground
Noone looks above the trees and the houses
Everyone can see that they're all little minded...

I want to drive away, far from this land
That makes only promises of a future with no hands
With no hands to carry your world in the right way
With no hands to make the future your own way
I'm off, without me, oh it will be without me,
Goobbye, see you in the land of the ones that want to live better days in a better way...

Top 10 for October:
Marc:
David Mead - The Trouble with Henry (Tangerine)
Mark Olson - Keith (Salvation Blues)
Shearwater - Red Sea, Black Sea (Palo Santo)
Thibaut:
Pink Floyd - Vegetable Man
Paul McCartney - You gave me the answer
Love - the red telephone
Jeff:
Wagner : prélude Acte 3 Tristan
Wagner : prélude Parsifal
Richard Strauss : Töd und Verklärung

October the 19th
You see, I told you Laurent would try to compete with me... AAAA!
Lol
I hope you're all enjoying the ride with us on Sellaband. We are!

October the 18th
Gee, I forgot to update this blog in a while. Well, the main reason is that I was on a Honeymoon trip, and you know, it's only once in a life!!! So, headed up to Brazil to show my wife the place, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador da Bahia, Morro de Sao Paulo and back home. What a fantastic trip all around this marvellous country that is Brazil! We had soooo much sun, sooo much to eat and so much fun that it's hard to describe. Think of a great holiday trip you had, and you'll probably see what I mean

Anyway, I'm back in Paris, on Sellaband too, only to see that without me you're EVERYTHING! You've made my trip an even better one by showing me the way to the 1500 $ !!! We're getting there, we are!

I will keep you informed about new things to come up, specially musically you know, because it's all what it's about :-)

ps: I try to be first believer of my band, but it's always hard to beat Laurent at that ;-)

October the 1st
Thanks to Kristen, Karen and Laurent for updrading and joining the band of believers! It is really thrilling!! I hope to convince you that you've made the right decision!

This week-end I have been quite slow, with Johan V's flu I think ;-)

Did I tell you that I uploaded a new song? Well, you believers all know it, specially Jennifer, but I thought it might be nice to change things a bit. So, what about putting "In the Universe", and what about putting it FIRST?

I know this song has a potential. We'll see if people agree... :-)
(Gee, and I love when a song has 0 listens... I love round numbers, you know!?)

September the 28th
thanks so much Blues Rock Rich for joining the team of believers! It's awesome to have you. I think we're in for some great late night (for me) discussions together!

Love

September the 27th
Today we were aired on the radio! How cool is that?
Well, not VERY cool, as the song that was played... Gee, bad mixing for my captain... Maybe we should think it all over again ... Tough one... Gee...

September the 26th
Yesterday I went to see New Pretoria play live, and it was really nice! You should check out these guys on myspace...!
Today is our TIME! It's our show @ le Franc Pinot, and I LOVE this venue. It's fantastic

It will be also the occasion to give away CDs in the hope that it makes new believers!

Have a nice day (I will!)

September the 24th
A new week begins and the next show @ Le Franc Pinot is going to be a true success. We'll be showing in the local "Metro" called "20 Minutes", so that will surely bring us fresh & new people!
I can't wait for that special acoustic night!
Marc

September the 21st
You know, sometimes you wake up and you know it's not going to be a great day, even if the sun's shining, even if the weather is smooth and nice. You can "tell" that you're going to be boooored. There I am, one of these days. Wanting to yell @ everyone that I'm feeling down... And you know what? The Beatles come up on my WMPlayer, and here I am, happy again, the sun's shining and the weather is smooth and it's a GREAT Day.

So Hurray to the Beatles and I really CAN'T understand people who are not COMPLETE FANS of them... !

September the 20th
Oh! Right, my auntie is a GEM! Thanks Betty for that one!

September the 19th
Tonight's the night: Once again, we're playing @ la Flèche d'Or with an excellent other act called David Mead, from the US.

We've decided to GIVE our Cds for FREE @ shows from now on, and to tell people to "believe in us" on Sellaband. We really hope to set the ball rolling from now on with shows and bring new believers on Sellaband. This platform deserves it, so we do!

September the 17th
Thanks to Kristen for here increased Belief... Kristen you're a gem and I can't wait to find the time to read your book :-)
I sent an e-mail for the Sellaband event I'm trying to organize @ la Flèche d'Or in January... That would be nice !

September the 16th
Yesterday we worked quite hard with Thibaut for an unproductive session in the end, except for flashing lights of backing vocals we made on Peel the Peels... Sometimes music is frustrating: you've got so much ahead, but can't seem to get anything right, and in the end, the only thing right to do is to leave it all as is it... You'll hear soon a new song we did who's called Shiny Day... It's a song we intend to put on our "Acoustic EP" that will contain Peel the Peels, Shiny Day, Monkey (a new version is being prepared at the moment... We've laid down the guitar yesterday, and Thibatu will be working on the strings today...), Leaves (which is done.. ah yeah, yesterday we finished the vocals for this one - tough one to sing!), Dance! Dance! Dance! (I hope we can make a great acoustic version of this song, we will see if it's better electric but I see it acoustic based...) and maybe an instrumental song called "Everything's fine"... But this one has only the chords so... We'll see.

I'm currently listening to Damien Rice... This guy could make you cry on the most beautiful day !!!

September the 14th
Yesterday, I worked hard to get some flyers ready for next show @ la Flèche d'Or. It will be all about Sellaband, and how to join us on this quest for the 50K!! I hope it will work!

September the 13th
Some may criticise the fact that I have put all those tags by myself on our profile, but it's a really good tool to get a little more presence on the website, as long as all artists don't do it! It may show my great ambition or my activity... :-)

Just to tell you that I'm planning to ask la Flèche d'Or if we can organize a Sellaband special gig... That would be cool. First Sellaband gig in Paris! We're organizing this with Steff...

September the 12th

Apart from the fact that it's my Caroline's birthday, I don't see anything to add to this date, apart that the number of parts goes down everyday those days... I wonder if I've done something wrong.

September the 10th
Ah: A new believer in the name of Carla! Welcome onboard Carla and enjoy your journey with us!
Thanks so much Laurent and Namor for having increased your belief!
I see Steff is giving more and more attention to Brian in his last run to the 50K GO DRAGON GO!!!

I just wanted to tell you that I'm really glad to be part of Sellaband, it's really a nice platform! I have something new every day!!

The only thing that I find quite annoying is the way people try to draw attention by shadowing the others... Public displays of affection by creating new threads all the time make all the best threads to disappear too quick on the forum and I find this unfair... And not very productive for Sellaband in general...

September the 7th
Today I've decided to upload a new song, it's called Peel the Peels and it was written as if a little child could express something he had dreamed of. Some lyrics have a particular meaning to me, without having much rational sense... You make your own meaning!

What I wanted to say is that a child's mind is always shifting from one thing to another, all the time without a meaning to us, but when you put things together, there might be a personal, oniric meaning... to everything !

Here are the lyrics... It's Thibaut's favorite song of Chapter 9 EVER!

Peel the Peels
Peel the Peels and plum the skies...
Shake your head and start to cry...
It's not wrong to be right, it's just it's not right
So climb the stairs and go to bed.

Send me to school and you'll smile
Write me a letter and you'll see through my eyes
Noone should be bothered to cry
If they only could see... how smart it is to feel fine

Give me a rest, let me breathe
Home's still far away
We need a future with kids that say yes
I'll send you flowers, monsters, whatever you like
But let me rest a while, you cook me a pie

September the 6th
Oh dear, I'm typing with a ring on my left hand, and I've got so many news to tell you, so many things to talk about. Well, the wedding went really well, all my friends were there, on time, and really glad to visit Belle Ile, such a fantastic island. Caroline was so gorgeous in her dress I could not even raise a smile when I first saw her, from stress and astonishment! The sunshine came when we went out of the Church, just in time for the big celebration to begin ;-)
All the people were dressed with Hippie clothes (some being psychedelic, some flower power, some bohemian, some swinging london)! It was so  nice to see that people had made the effort to stick to the dresscode... ;-) It was as if we were back in the 60's and it was a real great idea, because all generations were mixed together :-)
Now I'm back in Paris, with bad weather (as usual) but with shiny memories n my head and 3 shows in September !!!

THANKS SO MUCH ALFROMANTICATS for believing in us, and welcome onboard Chapter 9's blue boat!!! (nobody'll know i swear ;-) )

August the 24th
Apart from thanking Kristen, saying hello to all my current believers and thanks to Laurent for his amazing and continuous support, I wanted to tell you that I'm leaving now to Belle Ile for 10 days, on a holiday and getting married!!!! So, if you have no sign of me in the next ten days, that's the main reason ;-) !!!
Cheers to you all and big love from France
Marc

August the 23d
Well, I'm having big trouble with my Internet I think, because it's the third time I write this text... So it lacks a little bit of "freshness" :-D
Anyway, I was telling myself in my bed yesterday, that when we signed up in November last year, I was able to see a lot of "1K$ acts" that were fab, but could just NOT think this was for us, and how to deal with the postings etc. Now that I'm freed from obligations with regards to our distributor and that a forum allowed me to begin to know people, I think it's really the best place for us... It's a shame I did not realize it when signing up, because now, those "1K acts" are "10K acts"... :-s !!! But anyway, as you say it, each one its pace, and we all will be fine!

This morning I woke up and I saw that Laurent had believed two more parts in our project, and THANK YOU LAURENT FOR BRINGING US CLOSER TO OUR DREAM AND WE ARE REALLY GLAD TO MAKE IT WITH YOU!!!

August the 22nd
Big promotion on myspace... I created an "event" for people to join us on Sellaband, so I had to click on every single profile for hours... I'm soooo tired...!
I believe it will bring more bands than believers (as myspace is full of bands and not people), but... who knows? There might be someone out there who is not yet aware of Sellaband and wishes to put some money on the table for us to make a great record :-)

THANKS MATT for coming from Myspace and proving that all my efforts were not meaningless!!! :-D

August the 21st
Breaking news today, Thibaut has recorded guitar parts and keys on Peel the Peels and the result is astonishing! I'll let you hear it when we decide to officially "release it"!!!

Another breaking news is that Laurent is believing even more and I thank him a lot for that!!! THANKS LAURENT!!!

August the 20th

Thanks Laurent for believing in us!!!

Big love from France

August the 17th : 6 past midnight ;-)
I only got to see Nemesea's performance on Fabchannel, but it was fantastic! I hope everyone had a wonderful night of shows!
I'm sure you did!

August the 16th 2007
I've uploaded a photo from our Latest show @ La Flèche d'Or. The rest can be seen HERE!

August the 14th 2007
Getting up and having 2 more parts sold makes your day! Specially when the previous day you had a terrific show @ La Flèche d'Or ! First time I see it crowded at 8 PM, the guys were almost there FOR US! Imagine! ;-) The show was nice, all very subtle, lots of silence, and the crowd listening! Amazing!!!
So you may wonder who is the person who has believed, this "Linus"!!! One of our FIRST FANS EVER, who always puts money on Chapter 9, helps us, cheers us up, etc. It's great! And I thank him for this!

August the 13th 2007
This week-end I went to Angers to see relatives, and it was so nice to relax a little from the whole Parisian activity. I'm ready to explode the scene tonight @ La Flèche d'Or! Maybe some of you will come over and say hello!
Thanks to all of you who believed in our music during the week-end!!!

August the 9th 2007
I won't be here on the 10th 11th and 12th as I'm off to Angers! But I'll keep you in my heart. I NEED THIS BREAK!!! SEE YOU :-D
Today I posted an "emotive thread" on labels. I'm sorry if some people take it personnally, but those are my thoughts, anyway.

August the 7th 2007

Princess STEFF made us reach the 0,5K!!! THANKS STEFF!!!

August the 6th 2007
Big discussion with believers on the forum, always on the same subject: believers SHOULD know what we intend to do with the money they invest on us...

August the 5th 2007
Thanks so much Samu and Rey for believing! It means so much to me you can't imagine! It's been a really sunny week-end and I'm really happy, having met with friends back from London for a few days, etc.
On Friday, Antoni and I went to cheer up T-Ka @ Kriza Bar, and it was really nice! I can't wait to gig with her! Maybe I can sort out a Sellaband gig, sooner than you think! I'll keep you in tune anyway!
Cheers and thanks Samu and Rey, again!

August the 2nd 2007
Yesterday we recorded acoustic versions of my new songs at Thibaut's place, and I'm proud to let you download them for freeeeee! The 3 songs are called:

 Peel the Peels
 Dance Dance Dance
 This is Nowhere

I really think there's a potential to these 3 songs, and I'll let you tell me which one you prefer!

Big hugs
Marc
ps: you can also go to http://www.youtube.com/redhox and check out all the videos of our live session @ Abbess Road Studios!

July the 31st 2007
THANKS Martin for believing, you won't regret it, I swear!!!
I'd also like to thank Tiana (Cotsoyannis), a work colleague of mine who helps us since the beginning: Thanks TIANA!!!
We recorded 4 new songs acoustic, I might be putting them on the net and giving out links to listen to them pretty soon!!!

Very very sad to see John B. Baloumba leaving us... :-( Without notice...

July the 30th 2007
Oh my god, this weekend was awesome! I was caught by surprise by my best friends for a "stag-night weekend" and it was just soooo cool! So, now you know why I was not available, but be sure you'll hear new tracks here very soon! At least, this weekend I hope to be recording some acoustic guitar and some lead vocals, that I may post up here if it's good enough!

July the 27th 2007

Today I realised we had the full show up on our distributor's website!
Check it out if you like

July the 26th 2007
Thibaut came back from holidays and I told him once again about Sellaband. He was thrilled and put also some money in us (TP150).
Now we're all backing the SAB concept and I'm really happy with that!!!

Oh and this week end we might be recording new tracks... I'll let you know!

Cheers

July the 24th 2007

Finally, I've got one minute to lay down all that happened today... This morning I woke up with the strange feeling that I often have of "this day is going to be... a hard day".

My surprise came at 12 o'clock, when I received a message on myspace from a journalist I had contacted a while ago, telling me that he had written a review of Piece of Cake! The review is awesome, I love it, it tells
everything about the EP, in a perfect way...!

Check out this review of Piece of Cake (in French)

And today... Adam Sieff believed in us! He put one part, and it's an important one for us, as it has all his professional credit. Not that other believers' parts are less important, don't get me wrong... But it tells us something: that our music could be interesting on a professional standing point... That's great. Thanks Adam!

July the 23rd 2007
It rains again... Dear Summer, where are you? How can I sing my new song "Let the sunshine be mine" if you are not here???

Oh and I'll just go singing it anyway...

And today I just found out that we were going to play last @ la Flèche d'Or. Last @ la Flèche d'Or on a Monday is something to experience once in his life. I think there will be me and maybe a lost turist... We shall see...

July 21th 2007
Big discussion about liberalism with Walter today!
And a nice musical exchange with Atsuo who made me discover 'They Might Be Giants'... He just compared us to them, so I checked it out, and was thrilled. Check it if you like our tunes, you won't be disappointed!

July 20th 2007
Again, yesterday I tried to speak about SAB at a party, and French people seem to get it almost, but in the end... They don't see the point... It's so frustrating!

Thanks MightyB for believing in us! I hope you do like the songs!!

I was listening to Coldplay's rush of blood this afternoon. It's a really great album this one...!

We had a great talk with Shane about SAB improvements and some partnerships they could have to be better noticed!

July 19th 2007
If I was so busy yesterday evening, night, and this morning, it's because - I tell you, tell nobody else ! :-p - I'm getting married at the end of the summer, and I had many papers to fill and stress came out all of a sudden.
So... I'm here again on board, having finished all I had to do.

Some comments came from Lucretia about me being "suddenly" active. I have to say that even if she's objectively right, I don't take it really personally, and I think it's better to wake up one day and be a part of the adventure than not being active, never... These are my 2 p., they're on my personal blog, and they relate my very personal thoughts about this...

Anyway! This morning I believed for the first time in an artist other than Chapter 9 and I really feel great about it. You must know her: JULIA MARCELL!!! I'm a real fan of her songs! I hope she makes it quick to the 50K... I'm glad to be a part of her success if she does make it (I'm sure she will)

July 18th 2007
Today, Adam Sieff went on my profile!!! Whaouh!!! That's amazing. If someone had said that I would receive an e-mail from Tony Platt and a comment from Adam Sieff saying he likes my music, I wouldn't have believed it!

Enjoyed the little moments with MaWa yesterday late at night.

This morning I've been to "Le Divan du Monde" to give an EP. This is one of the coolest venues in Paris, located very near to La Cigale and Le Moulin Rouge of Montmartre. I hope I can convince the Artistic guys to make a Sellaband evening there! That would be nice!

Oh and I've updated my Myspace profile too, adding a SAB banner so that people can come through different ways to believe in us!
You know you've got one song more to listen on this myspace page, don't you? :-D It's called "Scenes of My Silly Childhood"!

My fiancee believed in me!!! hé hé hé!!!

July 17th 2007
Yesterday I promised my fiancee to get up as early in the morning as her (7.30AM). I just couldn't :-( ! So here I am it's 10 AM I am ready to connect to my usual e-mails / myspace / cqfd (french site) / AND SAB of course... And what do I see? Hans Van Nuffelen believed in me during the night! Party time!!! I won't open the bottle of champagne since it's 10.12 AM... But I'm sooo happy to see that our music receives some great echoes!
I've been chatting with Isca about the beauty of the Beatles (he seems not to agree, but that was the deal ;-) ) and I've sent the mp3's to Namor for his iPod. I've got to go and fetch some tea and say hello to Hans and drop a CD at a concert hall, and then send one to a manager (do you believe in managers?)

Well, after all, I'm using my part-time free time for this kind of things anyway. Hurrah SAB!!!

Oh and by the way, I've put a new video, it's an acoustic show with a cover song of the Faces!

I've been thinking of my recent and new involvement in Sellaband and part of it comes from a deep belief that our music could be recognized as being "good" abroad. Well it seems, with the recent "belief" coming from Austria, Australia, the UK, etc. that it's true... I really begin to believe that we can make it, somehow!!!

At the end of the day I'm as tired as everyday in front of the computer, tired but happy to have discussed with GD and other cool people on the forum and elsewhere on SAB. Thanks all for sharing your experience and thoughts on music and other cool stuff.

Hans, thanks for your nice comment on our music and the fact that you push me all the way to the 50K really makes me dream. I think I'll sleep like a baby tonight!!!

July 16th 2007
The usual monday morning. Woke up at 9 AM, and after a short shower and two cups of tea, I'm on Sellaband to check on my new messages and comments... Nothing hapened. Wait a minute! Who the hell is Namor II... Let me put things together. Oh, right, I know the Austrian guy, 3 months ago I sent him a message about our music. Here we are, a NEW BELIEVER! Last one was me 6 months ago... Thanks you Namor II you're a gem.
I have to go on the platform and celebrate it!

Note: if I had to make a little comment about Sellaband, it would be on the use of the video... We make nice videos but we don't like youtube and prefer Google Video... And we can't stream them on Sellaband... That's a shame...

Return from work at 7 PM. I've spent almost the whole day on SaB. It's a drug this thing...

I've got a song in mind I think I'll go and spend some time with my guitar!

Chapter 9 is like my optimistic view on life. The more you listen the more you get hooked! The song 'Cake' brings me back to the warm country-campfire songs of Bob Dylan that invite you to enjoy the company of friends in a friendly world, and at the same time Chapter 9 sounds as civilized and fragile as Josh Rouse, naked, but less melancholic and more looking for fun.

Here is a link to the making of 'Cake', enjoy!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v =gFtnuXW17tk

The song ' Peel the peels' tells me the story about how people want to live and to be free as a child. Above all this song has the positive feel and sound of 'Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young' (Deja vue: Our house, ...two cat's in te yard...)

Chapter 9' s musical arrangements take you by the hand and slowly lead you to the friendly psychadellic strawberry fields of the Beatles that make the songs easy to swallow and will leave you hungry for more afterwards...

Supporting Chapter 9 is not like investing in real estate for my own profit, it's like pooring water to a beautifull flower so it can grow and give joy to many many people...

Chapter 9's kitchen has a wonderfull cook, so keep on filling the menu so people will never get enough of you!

best wishes from a hungry boy,

Laurent

Truly fine music, special collaborations, articulate commitment, dues paid, what's not to like?

I'm very happy to add a small contribution to this fantastic project !!! I have been the earliest fan (or almost ! I know Matthias is going to jump on this one..) and attended every single gig - this is great music, and even more live ! I truly believe in Chapter 9's upcoming big break, but your help to make it happen sooner would be very welcome !!!

I am such a fan that i married Marc... seems like I got the best part.. ; )

Marc Verwaerde is an incredibly talented man. His voice is like a lazy drip of honey oozing out of a pot, but purified honey, clean and clear and warm. his guitar playing is classic and gorgeous, part early-Beatles, part Leonard Cohen, listening to him makes me think of Nina Simone's version of Tom Thumb's Blues. and he obviously has a great group of musicians around him. if he isn't famous eventually, there's something wrong with how the world defines talent.
