well, welcome to the beginning of an online dream!

I'm 28 and live in Exeter,Devon. I'm a relative unknown in the grand scheme of things, and most people who I've mentioned my dream of Sellaband to think I'm crazy!

Two years ago I thought all my Christmases had come at once when out of the blue I got noticed by a major record label. After writing some of my best material yet and in a story apparently all too familiar, I got let down at the 11th hour.

After a lot of heartache and soul searching, I've picked myself up. I don't have fancy recordings (mine were recorded in my bedroom) and I don't have a PR company - it's just little old me and some wonderful believers.

Please help a little gal reach her big goal!!

Hello hello!

Thanks for all your emails, and yes (she says with crossed fingers) i am feeling a little more like myself! Had a fantastic weekend, as Tony Platt, who is my producer came down to get started on the finer details of the album! We are wittling down the songs as we speak to the very best for this album, and spent time listening to each of the contenders. This was great as we were then able to build an idea of what musicians we feel we need.

What i like about working with Tony so far is that we seem to be on the same wavelength which is fantastic. We were able to talk excitedly about why one song should be on the album, and why another shouldnt etc, without any hurt feelings or worry. This reinforced the fact that i knew i had made the right decision.

As every good girl should, i have been set some homework to work on. My biggest challenge at the moment is learning to play most of my songs in different keys. As i am not formally trained i have been relying on a little button on my keyboard to set the tone of the songs automatically, but i am to play on a REAL piano, so this will take some adjustment.

Gosh! what an amazing couple of days it has been. I cant believe that two of my favourite sellaband artists are now at 50K!!! Well done to Daniel and Angie. Of course i DO believe it as i think they are both amazingly talented, and i can't wait to meet them both in due course!

Thanks for your get well messages. I am still dosing myself up thanks for all your tips on getting back to form.

Things are moving along nicely and im looking forward to meeting with Tony again next week. We have had a really good chat and we have decided to put a band together for the making of the album, but also for continuation when i tour (!). It's all very exciting and we are going to be holding auditions soon :)

We are trying to look at the big picture here to make this album a success for all of us. I'm also lucky enough to have a company backing me who have agreed to do a couple of videos at no cost, so we are currently plotting that and experimenting with artwork. I'm working on two new songs at the moment too which i am excited about, just trying to finish some lyrics and get my voice back!

Hi All!!! 26/04/2008

I thought it was high time i had a little update for those of you who i haven't spoken to yet. Well a lot has happened since we hit the 50K! Firstly i became prey to the 50k bug and have to say i am now into my 4th week of sore throat and flu! Steadily getting better!!

As some of you may also have seen i sadly had to withdraw from the planned Sellagig on 11th May. This was a really tough decision to make but over two weeks ago i let the organisers know that i couldn't attend. I'm sure everyone can appreciate that i didn't expect to get to 50k so quickly, and therefore did not realise all the work i would now be putting in over this time. This coupled with being sick for a month meant that i just could not commit. Those who know me know how bad i felt about this.

As you may have seen in the tribune i have now also made my producer choice and am so happy to be working with the wonderful Tony Platt. Tony's skill coupled with the fact that he is an all round top bloke makes me feel so excited and confident about the forthcoming album. Currently, we are choosing the final tracks for the album and are shortly going to be going on a search for some fantastic musicians to join the journey. I have also been working on a business plan to try and put into words how i see things going to the next few months.

It's be great to be in contact with so many of you, and dont forget to let me have your email addresses if you would like to join the mailing list.

I'll be in touch a little more regularly now that i am back in the land of the living and thank you so much again, for your wonderful support during this busy and exciting time!

Day 46- 16/03/2008!!

Wewawoowa!!!

So today is the day we got our Amazon points folks!! Yippeee!! What an exciting weekend it has been. I had a gig last night in Bickleigh, Devon and my wonderful Dad was texting me throughout the night to let me know how things were going!! And then i wake up this morning after treating myself to a little lie in and i see we hit 30k and then 31k thanks to the lovely Amazon peeps, and then you wonderful believers have then pushed me up to over 32k as i write this.

I am in awe. I have no words honestly to say the depth of gratitude that i have for every single one of you. This has been an amazing time. It's my 7th week anniversary on Tuesday night so we'll see where we are by then. Amazing though, really overwhelming!!

On a personal note though there are two EXTREMELY important things i have to share with you, more discoveries. Now, you understand i can only speak on my experience in the UK, but i would love to know if any of you are having the same experience.

Discovery No.1

You can buy...... hot crossed bun BREAD. That's right! Pre- sliced, easy fit-in-the-toastable, hot cross bun bread. This invention has gone unnoticed! I am officially an addict!

Discovery No.2

You know Fruit Pastilles? Well i LOVE the blackcurrant ones. You can now buy a full tube of just blackcurrant pastilles!

As you can tell it's all been a bit much for me!

Day 43-13/03/2008

Well i really dont have words for the last week. This has been incredible and now as i write we are over the 26k mark. Thank you so much for all your lovely messages and comments, it is so nice to be in touch with you all.

I had a holiday day from work today which met i could catch up and say hey!! Have also been running through some music for my gig on Saturday in Bickleigh which i'm really looking forward to. The nice thing is that my sister Kay and brother in law Mike (Fin's parents) will be there so i can sing Fin's song live for them for the first time.

Thanks for all your kind comments regarding the 50k plan, i am so grateful to you all for letting me know what you think and i agree with the overiding theme that seems to be present which is to keep things simple-just like me :)

Well day 43 and 26k! There is not much more i can say about that but a big thank you and hug to all of you who are helping me get there!

Thought i would put my 50k plan on here in case any of you missed the forum thread

After such an exciting time on Sellaband, a few of you have been asking what my plans are with regard to the album that we are going to make together. I don't think it's too early to plan these things!!

Firstly, what I never want to lose sight of is the music. It is after all why I am here. In terms of material, I have enough to fill a couple of albums but inevitably there are those songs which stand above the others. I think the recording needs to be sympathetic and therefore I don’t see it as a heavily produced album, and I feel what makes me who I am is the simplicity (did I just call myself simple?).

So, the actual songs then. I can’t in my heart leave Fin’s Song off the album. This is the song that helped me to reignite my self-belief, so I can categorically state that it will be on the album. In the same way I feel that Unseen and Firefly are also definite for me. There are however about another 6 songs at least that I have not put on Sellaband yet, that I also feel must be apart of this album. I’d be interested to know your opinion. My gut feeling is to leave a bit of mystery and only reveal these songs when the album is released? There are also three or four songs that I am writing at the moment, that I need to finish but that I feel could be among my best songs yet. My aim would be to record a 10/11 track album (for the standard editions).

In terms of the LE side of it, I would like to record two or three tracks just for you that I would not make available on the standard album. I would also like to put a video on the CD too. I have a company who have been backing me since I began my journey a couple of years ago who have offered to make a video for me in the past. Their support and advice has been wonderful. How does this sound?

In terms of recording, I hear many things when I am writing and recording my songs. I can't read a note of music, everything I do is by ear, but I think sometimes this helps to free me! Sometimes I can hear a cello lurking in the undertones and other times a swell of strings. I get frustrated at home with my synth that I cannot create this quality. I frequently hear guitar (and sometimes have included it) and even in Firefly (for example) drums as well. Sometimes I even hear electronic sounds in the mix. Part of this amazing experience is to be guided by a fantastic producer and I am ready to hear their advice and go through that creative process together. They may well hear things in my music that I can’t, or haven’t opened my ears to. The panel are some of the most experienced producers around and I am looking forward to working hard and learning from them.

Undoubtedly then, I will need some musicians to come and play for me on the album and i hoping this could lead to musicians to gig with too. As some of you know, it’s just me at the moment and as much as I try I can’t play everything. I like working with my voice though and creating backing with it. In Fin’s Song everything you hear apart from the piano and a slight electronic sound is voice. So I think I would like to be involved in providing most of the backing vocals as well. Sometimes though, it helps to throw other tones into the pot, and I would like to look at recording some male backing vocals too.

As it’s just me and I am not too high maintenance (my family may disagree), when I am recording the album, any personal costs will be kept to a minimum. I’m happy to sleep on the studio floor if it comes to it!LOL!

Once the album has been made, for me, this is the beginning of another exciting phase. With the album behind me, my intention is to gig as much and in as many locations/countries that I possibly can, as I feel that this is the best way to get the music heard and the album sold.

I also intend to get in touch with some contacts from the past and present, and some of the larger UK radio stations, who promised their backing in the future. I will be working hard to secure distribution deals as well and see in addition, just how many outlets we can get the album in to. Lastly, I will be telling the whole world about Sellaband and raising its profile as much as I can.

So I hope that this sounds ok for the first draft of the master plan. I can’t pretend to know all the answers and seriously I want your opinions on this. The banner says Ellie Williams & Fans make music together-so let me hear your voices!

Day 34- 04/03/2008

Well we did it together!!! We are now well past the 15k stage and moving nicely towards 16k :) yay

I dont know if you know but tonight at 10.30 CET marks my 5th week anniversary here in the wonderful world of sellaband! In some ways it's doesnt seem like yesterday in other ways i feel at home. Tonight i have been practicing some tracks which i am going to be recording at 1pm on Friday lunch time for the radio peeps i was telling you about. I will find out then when it will be aired but most probably on Saturday. I will let you all know Friday night!! Finding it hard to decide which track to do but really it think it has to be Fin's Song as it is his 1st birthday on Monday!!

I cant finish without saying congratulations to Kaitee Page. I can't quite believe how that last 20k went out the door. We bagged our couple of bits of the album so can't wait to get it!! Good Luck Kaitee.

Meanwhile.....back at the ranch....lets get our album made too ;)

Day 32-02/03/2008

Hello everyone! Well what a night it was last night. I spent a fair bit of time hanging out in the c5 countdown chat room. I have to say i thought that it was an amazing "atmosphere" and everyone was just waiting to pop that cork on the champagne and congratulate the boys. what an amazing night! I can't wait to hear the album :)

It's been a great few days here as well.! Since i have last written we have broken the 200 believer barrier and now stand at 210-and just short of the 15k milestone which feels amazing. Next week i am going to be releasing some initial thoughts that i have for the 50k plan- i.e. what happens when we get there. I'll be letting you know what i think about songs and budgets etc...so watch this space.

Today i have been playing and writing. I also experimented with a version of Imogen Heap's Hide and Seek which is totally acapella- i think its a beautiful song- i may record me singing it!

Hi!

Well here we are then! Last night at 10.30 CET marked my calendar month on Sellaband and we all managed to get to 12k and 189 Believers! What an amazing month. I really can’t quite believe how things are moving along, I don’t want this ride to stop!

Thanks for all of your messages regarding the Tribune article as well, it was such an honour to be asked to do it, I can’t tell you! The radio play is moving along now as that local station I told you about are hoping to record a live track with me in the next couple of days to be played on air either this Saturday or next Saturday. Slight problem with logistics though as my weapon of choice is my keyboard and that’s not quite as portable as a guitar! I will keep you up to date with when it’s going to be on as you can also listen to it online. Be sure that I will be plugging Sellaband left, right and centre!

On Monday night, I experimented a little with trying to record myself at home singing so you could at least have a little bit of video to watch? Is that something you would find interesting-it’s just me in m’ spare room warbling away! Also be sure to check my profile on Friday evening as I may have a little surprise for you!

DAY 26-24/02/2008-10 K!!!!!!!!!!!

I can’t quite believe it but we seem to have reached and passed the 10k mark!!!! WOW!!!

As you can see i have been having wonderful fun this weekend trying on a new wardrobe basically of cheese. I’m now feeling quite sick as i think i had too much.

Some exciting news! I have just heard that another of the radio stations local to me wants to play me :) This is a local but national network of radio stations which could hopefully lead to a lot more airplay around the UK. Am waiting for the final details and will let you all know as soon as i do!

Also what a fantastic week chart wise!!! I can’t believe i’m staying within the top 2 at the moment. Congratulations to Kaitee for hitting 25k-in fact 26k now- she is having a storming week and i really hope she keeps going from strength to strength- do it for the girls :)

A lot more of you have requested usernames for the secret area and i hope you are enjoying the tracks you have found. I’ll be updating these fairly shortly with some new songs for you to download!

How you all doing? Today has been a fantastic day! I’ve been amazed at the supportive messages coming my way! Thank you so much. We are well and truly on the way to 8k now, which is just crazy-but much appreciated.

Today, because i still am poorly with flu i have been listening to some music which has been a nice change :) At the moment am really liking Imogen Heap and a new band called Passenger-especially a song called Table for One-really great.

Hello everyone! Hope you are all doing well! Well, what can i say? What an amazing 24 hours it has been. After a slowish weekend for quite a few of us all of a sudden i blink i find myself looking at 7K! You wonderful people truly amaze me every day! Thank you so much!

Day 15- 13/02/2008-5K REACHED!!!! :) Hi All

What a fantastic day :)

Thanks to all of my lovely believers i have reached the 5k mark in 15 days!!! I can’t believe last night i wrote to you all saying i was so pleased to reach 4k and now today i’ve hit 5! You are fantastic people to know and thank you so much for all the kind messages that you have sent me. Every single one is appreciated!

Day 14- 12/02/2008-COUNTDOWN TO 5K

Well i didnt think i would be writing this today! I can’t quite believe it but less than 24 hours from saying i hope i make it to 4 k-we are suddenly moving nicely towards the 5k mark-and a little announcement will be given very very soon-sorry to be such a tease-but it’s something as a thank you to all of you who’ve believed!

I’ve changed my profile name to reflect the countdown to 5k i’m so excited!!! Was so pleased today as well to see that i was number 3 in the weekly charts. Thats one more place up and a really fantastic amount of parts and believers on board. It’s so good to be with you!

Day 13 11/02/2008

Hi!!

Today has been an amazing day! I started off this morning thinking i would be over the moon if i got to 4k by tomorrow evening (my 2 week anniversary), and all of a sudden (!) i was catapulted to cloud nine by my lovely believers and i have gone past the 4k mark today! Amazing! Onwards now to the 5 k mark :)

I have to mention a quick hello to Koo and Alex who are two of my lovely believers. I know you are rooting for me everyday and i wanted to let you know it hasn’t gone unnoticed. Along with all my believers. I’m so happy to have you all walking the journey with me.

As quite a lot of the artists do i have a day job, so please don’t feel annoyed if i dont reply too quickly sometimes it’s because i will get the sack :(-

just joking-my boss is a great friend and believer! My company have been very supportive but i must look after them too!!!

Tonight i am mostly practicing for a friends wedding on thursday-some of my own songs and some interesting covers-i wont reveal which ones yet as i dont want to give their secrets away!!

Well heres hoping for the 5 k soon and maybe i can hold on to number 2 in the charts tomorrow??

Day 12-10/02/2008

Today i am just 22 parts away from hitting my 4k mark. I am so excited. I also got the news this morning that Fin’s Song has been voted song of the week on Talentcast. The support from those guys has been amazing. For any artists check out their site www.talentcast.nl and upload a song. This then gets put forward for song of the week!

Day 10

A great day today. I managed to get my first radio play in England! Thanks to one of my believers who took time to spread the word, Rob Wheeler from South Hams Radio plated Fin’s Song in it’s entirety during is show on Friday night!

I cant’ tell you what an amazing feeling it was. As soon as i heard new thats Ron was going to play it i emailed everyone that i could think of and called my family, and what a feeling. To suddenly hear a song you wrote in your bedroom being played over the radio waves. Honestly, this alone was worth more to me than any of the time during a quest for a record contract. I literally couldn’t speak.

Today was a good day

Day Eight-My best Birthday!!

Well, i can hardly write this! Now is actually the day after my birthday and i have woken up to see that my lovely believers have pushed me to the 3k mark!! This is more than i could have hoped for. Thank you for all your kind birthday messages, it is so good of you.

Also in response to a couple of comments following the sad departure of Trail. I will be an SAB artist, and i will go all the way with you to 50k!

Make sure you let me know if i am making you unhappy, because without my lovely believers, i wouldnt be on this journey

What an amazing week so far- I can’t believer the momentum that has gathered. I am so excited to be here and people are hearing the music. As most of you know it’s just me and my computer in my bedroom and it is so nice to think that the music i made here is coming out to you!

Hello Ellie. Just a message to say well done fo reaching $50k. We have listened to alot of artists on Sell A Band since we joined a week ago, and without doubt you are our favourite so far! Your voice is fantastic, proper goosebump stuff, cant wait for your album. I found Ellie's page the first day of my membership. As soon as I heard "Unseen", I was hooked. Her songs are beautifully written and beautifully sung. I am waiting for her album with all the patience of a child on Christmas Eve.
