*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*About Us*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Jade, a highly prized precious stone, is believed by some to eventually become a part of the life of its owner, and changes its hue according to the aura of its possessor.  Confucius remarked that jade “struck, gives a clear note, long drawn out, dying gradually away and suggesting music ... it gains our confidence, suggesting truth”. Like the qualities of the precious stone, The Jade Diary’s music can draw in the listener to its simple beauty and honesty, the songs becoming a reflection of their hidden emotions.

The Jade Diary is an Australian band with an evolving pop-rock sound infused with lush melodies and insistent, soul-searching lyrics. It all began, in an idyllic but isolated city called Perth, when Cheryl Lim decided to form a band called Opus Red alongside Renee Sherlock and others, playing unique covers from Summertime to Sweet Home Alabama. It was fun while it lasted, but after Opus Red disbanded, the passion that Cheryl had for creating music never went away. Many songs and Kleenexes later, she decided that she would give it another go - but this time, it was not going to be another serious hobby. This time, it would mean plunging into a business well known for wannabes and near misses. A crazy idea, but it had to work. So she enlisted the help of Renee, keyboardist and songwriter, and together in November 2006, they started The Jade Diary.

Consisting of Renee Sherlock on keyboard, Joshua O’Keefe as lead guitarist, Rachael Russell as rhythm guitarist, and Cheryl Lim, lead vocalist, all members share a love for songwriting.

2008 is a significant year for The Jade Diary and has seen the recording of the band’s debut EP, “Landscape of Dreams”. From the surreal realms of the subconscious mind to professions of undying love, the EP is an infectious and eclectic fusion of pop, folk and rock. The songs ambitiously feature themes of melancholy, joy, desire, loneliness, and of course love. Expertly produced by Rob Agostini who has worked with Blanche Dubois, Monique Brumby and Nick Barker, and mastered by Steve Scanlon (Kate Ceberano and Diesel), the songs have been fleshed out with breathtaking harmonies and arrangements featuring ambient keyboards and guitars. As one listener said, “what's notable about The Jade Diary is their truth, honesty and raw emotion that channels through each song, and what I find is their greatest strength is that the tracks all provide an insight into the deepest emotions and feelings so many will experience in their life.”

Innocent romance-seeking themes in the music combined with darker, meditative and alluring elements, fused with pop-rock sensibilities results in a heady mix of whimsy and earthiness, which is where The Jade Diary sits, somewhere in the transition between the two.

Another milestone: 4K! Thanks so much for getting us there! Now onward to 5K!!!!!!

16/5/08:

We've reached $3,000 yaaay! Feels like climbing a huge mountain, but don't worry we're not giving up... Amazed about how bands like Electric Eel Shock have managed to zoom up the charts so quickly! Congratulations to EES!

16/4/08:

We're chuffed that Tirza in the Sellaband office has been listening to What She Wants ... that's a good thing! Thank you Tirza!

Have just added "Landscape of Dreams", one of my personal favourites (actually Love Called Me Home is my absolute fave). The song came to me after I had been just writing down whatever came to mind (it's a great way to churn out song ideas) and stuff came out like 'subconscious desires', 'dark woods' and 'searing desert sand'. So there is a lot of imagery in the song. I'm the type of person who loves fantasy and dreams, so that tends to crop up in my writing a lot! Don't know about you, but one of my favourite songs of all time is still "These Dreams" by Heart. So this song is my ode to "These Dreams"!

Cheryl

Hey Guys

You are in a new promo ;-)

Over the past few days there have been up to 6 Aussies acts in the real time charts. This may not sound like much but keep in mind that in Australia we are lucky to crack 20 million in total population.

We are encouraging EVERYONE to support the Aussie acts this week (and forever;-) to see how many we can get & keep in the charts for the week.

C'mon, everyone knows what the Aussies are like - we will always be there for you when you need us so let's see what we can do as a Sellaband Global Nation for the Aussie Real Time Chart Assault.

Crack a stubby, throw a shrimp on the barby, where do we goanna, don't flash your wangaratta, how much can a Koala Bear - go throw a few parts into some Aussie acts and make the world a better place.

This will be a record for Sellaband & a record for Australia - be a part of it.

I haven't even confirmed with all the other Aussies yet but it is easier to get forgiveness than approval so I offer the following and hope I don't get into trouble;

The believer that adds the most parts by close of this weeks charts (and the parts must be evenly spread over at least 5 Aussie Acts) will get a combo pack of promo items from all the artists & 10 gift parts. There will be only 1 winner and they get EVERYTHING.

GAME ON!!!!!!

Great songs and a lovely lady, Cheryl. XX
Laurent Caris 30.05.08 6

The Jade diary brings musically rough jewels with instant hit potential, carried by the heavenly voice of Cheryl Lim! Beside every comment yet given, I want to say I really like this voice, as fragile as Lucinda Williams, as self confident as Madonna, as inspiring as the voice in the song 'Moonlight shadow' of Mike Oldlfield, and what I prefer most is the resemblence I feel with the professional way of Sarah Brightman, because Cheryl can bring, cover, perform always in her own way, even though the music may sound like rock, pop, U2, or whatever, she can lift the performance to a higher level, not because she wants to, but... just because she can...

Maybe The Jade diary resembles to Michelle Branch, because of the 'timbre' of the singers voice... but on the other hand Cheryl is different because you don't feel the lazyness of Vanessa Carlton or the empty-headed commercial or erotic flatness of many other artists. That is why I like to compare her with Sarah Brightman who is very concerned about quality and being true to yourself, towards others... and radiates the energy of true personnality. So I wish all of you lots of success and please remain true to yourself and true to what really matters to you in life... and in music!

Your song "What she wants" is a poprock pearl with the only remark that some hard lines in the lyrics do not fit to the innocent and pure voice and heart of Cheryl that I like her to sound like... but the hitpotential of this song is 100%, so I humbly bow my head...

"Landscape of dreams" on the other hand has all the elevated emotions of enlightened insight where our worlds values of rusty illusions transform in silver and pure gold. In this song you find what is missing when primitive agression to reach primitive satisfaction cannot lead us to the heavenly hights of "Landscapes of dreams" where the angels in all of us get the wings to fly high above our dark and painfull pasts... and Cheryl sings like the female version of 'Vangelis' in a 'Mike Oldfield'-like  song...

Please, Cheryl, sing...!

Lot's of love and success on the way...

Laurent

Very dreamy melodies sung in a lovely manner.

Cheryl's voice reminds me of the voice of Julianna Regan of All About Eve. I predict a wonderful future for this talented group.
