Karalta
Karalta is a three piece band that fuses together metal, funk, jazz and rock creating their own unique sound. The centre of this sound comes from the combination of a six string bass, a seven string guitar and a wide range of musical influences such as Charlie Hunter, Glassjaw, Incubus and Pulse Ultra.
Karalta was originally formed when multi-instrumentalist Scott Walker left his previous band in 2003 with a new conceptual musical idea. The idea was to form a band that was not only musically unique but was also incorporated many other strengths required to succeed in the industry. These included individual musicianship, motivation, professionalism and emotional stability within the group. These aims resulted in a three-piece line up, the core of which is the long time friendship of Scott Walker and bassist Luke Ince. They are both dedicated people driven to succeed not only musically but also professionally. Scott has a Ph.D in Astronautics and is currently working as a Lecturer at the University of Southampton. Luke has a degree in Media Technology and is currently working as a Broadcast Engineer for the BBC in London. The pair immediately began writing in their own unique style, drawing on influences from Charlie Hunter, Glassjaw, Incubus and Pulse Ultra to create a sound that is a fusion of metal, jazz, rock and funk.
In May 2004 they recorded a two-track demo (with Scott playing drums) as a means to find the right drummer. They quickly found the person they were looking for in Jake Flood, who joined the band in July 2004. Within a few months the band had made the decision to start recording the first body of songs, a process that began in October 2004. On the strength of the original two track demo the band were asked to headlined a showcase night at the well known Southampton venue The Joiners in January 2005. It was the bands second live show. Throughout the following months the band continued to work on the recording of their first album release and played a few selective live shows including more headline slots at The Joiners. In April the band released two promotional tracks from their forthcoming album, which resulted in their first out of town show in London where they were asked to headline a showcase night at West14 in Kensington. Their Debut, self produced, album 'another' was released in august 2005, and has recieved favourable reviews...
SouthScene - Album Review
... as far as rock/metal music taking fervent strides towards originality and creativity go, Karalta are clearly one step ahead of some of their peers. Like bands such as Incubus, Sikth, Aconite Thrill and of course the Godfather?s of all things insane, Faith No More, they are not afraid to try out different things and for the most part, successfully pull it off in the process!

... Jazz, funk, rock, metal... it's all apparent on 'Another', and a testament to the band's skill that they're able to cram these various styles into a series of sub-five minute songs. Bands who defy classification tend to be far more exciting than those who stick to the narrow confines of their chosen genre, and Karalta are no exception....

Neon Promotions - Live review
Jazz metal three piece Karalta explore the rythmical side of metal tonite - and with seven string guitar and six string bass the guys have plenty of range in their sound. Complex slapping bass accompanies vibrant, skilful drum rythms while guitar strums and doodles away freely. Vocal melodies can be long and easy, adding contrast to the sometimes choppy arrangements. At times a hint of Chilli's or perhaps Primus can be heard, but on the whole this is truly a jazz odyssey...most intriguing.

ANOTHER is an album that takes today's rock sound and adds in a few twists and turns of its own, marking Karalta out as one of those bands to watch with much interest in the coming months.

[the-mag] - Album Review
... it's clear that these songs are constructed well and, with some nice guitar work, the album flows nicely. The mix of what Karalta call "jazz-metal" works well in each song and the more mellow tracks are placed in-between the heavier tunes with a lot of thought... Karalta wouldn't look or sound out of place on a smaller stage at Reading...

Metal4Life - Album Review
... when Karalta riff up a storm as they do on opener, "Taken", then they show themsleves perfectly capable of getting a couple of hundred people into a club gig and pinning them to the wall. Their best song is "Drift", which is probably their most indie number, all scratchy guitars, Scott Walker crooning and a few blasting chords.

Neon Promotions - Sampler review
Look out its Jazz metal no less - and very well crafted it is too. "Taken" is a little gem of a track, winding up and down in and out through the murky world of flams twiddles and er...such like. Seriously, there's a damn good chorus and the band are not only hard hitting when they want to be, but precise too - like a guided missile. "Fade from Real" is quite a grinder, but still the guys break it down and work their complex melodies. Pay attention Bond.

Howdy!
Just wanted to pop in and give you a heads up on Sommersby's October Competition!
If you haven't already heard, the competition (hot on the heels of his recent neck-in-neck September fiesta) will offer 20 parts for the winner and is open to all artists that have between $9999 and $0 in budget.
Please check the forum for updates on contest rules and regs….starts 25 October!
This is a great opportunity for you. Campaign with the believers to let them know you'd like to be nominated and encourage them to vote for you when the time comes.
Of course, if you'd like to, or you know someone who would like to, donate parts for the prizes in the Competition, just send (or have them send) Sommersby the details under a message marked “October Donation."
Hope you join in on the fun and GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!!!
