A big Thank You to all of you who voted for me for Sellabration 08.. maybe next time!!!
(English version below!)
Discographie:
"Conte de Fait" 13 titres Music Box 2006
"Le Royaume Des Ombres" 5 titres Music Box 2007.
For those who don't speak (or should I say read) French, I thought I would briefly explain the concept of Laïxa - there doesn't seem much point in literally translating what can be read on the info page, as I would in all honesty struggle to find the same poesy of language in English (and I have to say, the bad translations I've seen on some other French artists' page don't inspire me!)
Firstly, let me explain, Laïxa is the name of a band in which Paméla sings, and Chris plays the instruments. However, the framework of the songs is set within the personality and (slightly weird) world of the imaginary character Laïxa. (so don't be surprised if she communicates with you personally - she represents everything the band is). Laïxa is the embodiment of the duality of mankind, a being neither alive nor dead - at the same time good and evil, male and female, capable either of bringing forth life or killing. The songs, therefore, are often ambiguous, sometimes seemingly about one thing but finally revealing that they're about something else entirely; usually exploring the darker aspects of the human condition, but in a sensual way.
Lyrics to some of the songs are posted on the Laïxa myspace page: www.myspace.com/musiquelaixa
The following Laïxa albums are also available (pm for details!)

A few believers have been asking about our back catalogue recently, so this month's new song is "Irreductible", a track from our first album "Conte De Fait"
12 May 2008
A quick update on the new album - the release date has been put back again, due to reasons beyond our control (administrational problems with the Government bodies who are partly financing it.) This is very frustrating for us, as everything is in place now except this final part of the finance package. Watch this space for updates!

Here's the lyrics for "Elle"
Elle
Créature féerique
Un destin si tragique
Ouh..
Me dévore et m'honore
Mon corps si j'en sorts
De remords je m'endors
Je rejoins les seigneurs de la nuit
Je suis un être sans cesse inassouvi

I'm pleased to announce that we have joined the Collaboration Project and that our first collab with The Quahaugs (http://www.sellaband.com/thequahaugs/) is now finished! Have a look at the Collabs profile:

I'm delighted to announce that we've now finished recording a new 15 track album - these 15 tracks have been selected from a shortlist of 120 songs (ALL of which we demo'd first!), some of those demos having appeared on this page over the past few months. Thanks to those believers who've made comments on these songs and thereby helped us to decide what to include on the album.
For us, this album is an interim recording while we're on the way to the 50K - we wanted to show you all what we can do, and to demonstrate our professionalism in the studio environment (15 tracks recorded in 15 days). When we promise something, we deliver it.
The recordings are now being mixed/mastered, and the CD should be ready in a couple of months. Watch this space for details of how to get a copy - believers can expect a promotion of some kind!

This section was getting a bit messy, so I've got rid of all lasts year's dates and started anew - promise I'll try and keep it a bit tidier this year! PM me if you want times/addresses or whatever.
Sorry, but July and August's concerts have had to be cancelled because of Paméla's throat infection.

For a band that make left-field, and intriguing pop- it takes a lot to
get noticed. A variety of the most skilled musicians such as Tori Amos,
Siobhan Donaghy and Vanessa Carlton are often ignored by the mainstream
charts, due to their refusal to provide the catchy, simple music many
commercial artists produce. However, as these artists have proved,
Mainstream success is not necessarily vital to proceeding within a
career of successful musicianship. The genre of pop itself is somewhat
used as an insult in today’s society- as pop conjures up images of boy
bands or ill-fated reality TV stars. But in its reality, pop as a genre
is nothing like this. Laïxa are a band that create this type of pop.
Nothing cheesy, and nothing desperate for success- but something unique
and accessible- yet original at the same time. The band make use of the delightful tones of Pamela, alongside the muti-instrumental musical talents of Chris. As a duo, the pair lurk into different musical genres, keeping their rock vibes as the foundations. With techno, pop, symphonic, ambient, metal and oriental aspects seeping through alternate tracks- it’s a sure thing to say that Laïxa aren’t like any other band. Think of the mysterious, and dark side of Lady Haidee, with a stronger emphasis on the rock elements- akin to The Jade Diary, alongside a sprinkle of industrial and pop vibes. As well as this mixture, Laïxa keep their originality by adding an interesting addition of French lyrics- staying true to their nationality and taking gothic pop to a new audience. One of the most mainstream-friendly songs in Laïxa’s discography is a beautiful and stunning track titled Redemande Moi. With a strong, catchy bridge, leading into one of the fieriest and breathtaking choruses I‘ve heard, it is lead by an amazing vocal performance full of passion and serenity, and backed by a great composition created by the gorgeous, atmospheric rock backdrop- the band stay true to their gothic undertones, despite the electronic and rock elements often gaining prominence, rendering their music with a further sense of originality. Another prime example of Laïxa’s talent and accessibility is the addictive vocal lines of Invincible. A song which manages to captivate its listening audience with its inclusion of synths and memorable industrial influences. Pamela’s voice proves itself time and time again, ranging from powerful and direct, to serene and soothing- fitting into the Laïxa soundscapes perfectly. Au-Delà Du Désir is a more laid back, and soothing song. The verses are divine and guide into a driving, but equally as easy-going chorus. It adds a new dimension to Laïxa’s inspired sounds. The French lyrics really shine on this track as well, as it puts more emphasis on the music for non-French speakers- and the music blends perfectly with Pamelas stunning vocal performance. Alike every artist on Sellaband, however, Laïxa have their signature track. As Fin’s Song is to Ellie Williams and Où Es Tu is to Clémence- Elle is the embodiment of Laïxa and their sound. A gorgeous build up to one of the greatest choruses on Sellaband- the song has huge and major hit potential, and is a necessity to their Sellaband CD, surely?! Their absolute precision and talent is a major positive to this track, and words can never describe the way the song captures you so effectively. As a band, so far, Laïxa have made a substantial amount of money, and strive each day to make themselves heard and noticed within Sellaband- but without applying the omnipresent spamming technique many artists make use of. The duo often are central to debates within the forums- questioning peoples opinions on the site in general and assuring visitors that their music is never compromised to appeal to a mass audience. Within Sellaband, Laïxa often state that their language and nation are key to their band, and ensure that every aspect of them, musically and lyrically, is true to themselves. Surely a passion and bravery like this should be rewarded? It seems so, as Laïxa slowly but surely continue to raise the sufficient funds to create the most original, unique and French ( ;-) ) album Sellaband can ever hope to offer. |

Strong punchy music and a great vocal talent. 'Laixa' displays the drive and determination to succeed which is what I look for in an investment. There are some lovely rich French prose in all Laixa songs and what a great way this is to brush up on your French. The new track 'Songe a ta viei' is just another example from the multi talented duo of Pamela & Chris who together are Laixa. |
