I've been listening to Close to home for a couple of weeks now and I even start to sing along the Maori chants. What better way to prove that this is a great album. |

I just got maitreyas CD and put it in my Bose and WHOA, it is soooo good, Waitaha is totally worth the vote. it made me want to get up in the warrior stance for the war dance, I don't understand it all but I feel it all, what a brilliant blend of native and urban and I feel his soul throughout the whole album, and a statement on the troubles of his native home. This isn't usually my genre, but with his addition of other muscians his blends of styles is amaaazing and opens up the listening base to many others. I felt emotions with every song, of course, I love Sin City, I just wanted to open my doors and offer safe haven to the souls in your song. Every single song had something real in the rhythm. Thanks for the journey...

From New Zealand to New York, from the streets to Sellaband, from a wandering spirit to a knowing one, Maitreya has delivered an epic album that listens as a personal journey musical. Brilliant rhyme, incredibly intimate personal stories delivered in the most catchy, delicious rap that will convince even people who, like me, never were able to appreciate rap & hip-hop. Maitreya has, together with the increcible "The Silence", created a new genre. A true modern day opera, delivered with poise, with magnificent melodies, with powerful rhythms and intimate lyrics. I could never have predicted that I would be able to get into hip-hop, but believing Maitreya when I got to know him, his vision, his mission and his integer, peaceful and light soul, I knew that I could trust him when he told me that he was going to create something incredible (he was using less strong words, but this is how I understood him). It is hard to find my favourite songs, the album truly is a musical story that you can, must, listen to from beginning to end. Having said that, at the moment (ask me later and it'll have changed) I'd select "Waitaha" with the indigious rhythmic chants, "So-Lo" with the haunting melody and very personal lyrics and "CHur to the CHur", reminiscent of Winehouse's "rehab" in it's haunting melodic prose. Hip-hop has been redefined. Maitreya is The Next Generation of musical storytelling! Now it's up to YOU to bring it "close to home"! |

FIRST SINGLE EARLY OCTOBER: "Harlem Streets"... So, here's a quick Bio: In 2002 Maitreya released the successful single “Lick-a-Lounge” under MAI MUSIC as well as becoming a popular On Air Personality at Auckland radio station Mai FM. He continued to collaborate with artists such as Nesian Mystik and Kat Theo while recording his demo“Comin 2 Amerika” in anticipation of an August 2003 move to New York City. For the next two years Maitreya immersed himself in New York’s Open Mic scene and in 2005 he released and sold over 500 copies of ‘ILLEGAL ALIEN’, a mixtape style album hosted by The Game’s DJ, Kris-Stylez. He also secured an internship at Roc-a-Fella Records(Jay-Z) as a member of the ‘Street Team’ and in 2006 began his own live show, ‘ILLEGAL’, which he continues to perform in and around the Lower East Side and Brooklyn, New York. In November of 2006 Maitreya signed up to the online music site SellaBand.com and became an immediate sensation. The challenge was to raise $50,000 from fans on the site to be used to record an album with top of the line producers and production facilities. Maitreya became the 6th artist ever to raise the 50K on June 2nd 2007 and is now in the process of recording and co-producing his debut solo album "Close To Home" with The Silence of London. |

Hope the recording is going well, my friend! I am so very excited that I met one of the hardest working and most creative artists on Sellaband. He is witty, highly intelligent and what's more he is a nice guy with a never say die attitude. He is going to make New Zealand and all of us on Sellaband very, very proud! I seriously believe that Maitreya will be a mega star in the years to come. You have my greatest respect Maitreya! ANZACS FOREVER! |

Maitreya is just... Maitreya. I mean, a lot of musicians play the same genre, but you often listen to similar stuff, not finding any difference from one to another. Big M is so original and himself. I was really happy when he reached the 50,000$ because it shows that SAB is giving the right value to the right talent. |

The man. The legend. Maitreya is someone who is not only talented, but also extremely courageous. He left his country to find his place in one of the worlds toughest cities... New York. Mighty Maitreya is a wonderful singer, rap artist, sensitive social commentator and personality. His talent is broader than the hip hop/rap genre, and so it should be. He is not limited to rhythmic rhyme, his voice is incredible and flexible. (His wonderful remix of Kane Sole's 'Here We Go'; his amazing take on Cubworld's 'My World' - it's just beautiful...) I am inspired by this dude. And I love the styles he plays with ranging from more traditional pop songs to lush, tender ballads. His song So-Lo gave me goosebumps true enough. It's one of those songs I almost can't listen to but am totally drawn towards by the same respect. The world and hip hop in general needs this guy. Modern hip hop has too many pussyfooting pansies prancing around with their scant clad nubile no-brained nymphettes. Maitreya brings intelligence, sensitivity, great rhymes about reality and sublime, groovy beats and uses them creatively, authentically and appropriately. He deserves the 50K! Awesome. GD Allan |

Dub be good to me, yay! Maitrya what can I say.
I think what makes the sound so good is that he lives and breathes everything he does, unafraid to touch pop and other genres he make rap really shine getting the groove just right is a hellava achievement and there's a whole "Lotaluv" in what gets done.
I urge anyone reading this review to go "So-Lo" and beyond the profiles to find " More Than Dreams " and other tunes.
So, like a shining Bodhisattva that trips the light fantastic " Smile " and have a lovely day who else can remix Marvin Gaye

I have actually been paying attention to this artist ever since finding one of his videos on You Tube. Not only is he creative musically but also in his approach to the operations of his music carrear. Though I admit I almost missed my chance at this part due to my busy life and forgetful nature this last few weeks. My faith in his success though has been there from the very first time I saw what he was doing and I have attempted to keep up to date with all his video work. |

Maitreya is going to single handedly bring this old school hip hop fan back to the genre. Everything I love - a relentless groove, a hypnotic rhyme, lyrics you can listen to without cringing - this is art and poetry as much as it is music. Love and light... indeed.
