I am a musician from a Griot family in Guinea Conakry.
My mother, Babatady Djiabate, and my father, "Djetenan" Seckou are both from Griot families (history teller) and they are also composers, themselves. My father is a great Balafon player and my mother plays the guitar. She taught me to play the guitar as my first instrument when I was still very young. In our house, everybody is a Griot ( family of musicians), so there are instruments everywhere. I learned to play many instruments inlcuding Kora, balafon, bass, djembe, bolon (African double bass), drum kit, all just by picking them up and starting to play.
In Africa, we played with my family in the street at ceremonies, at initiations, weddings, christenings and other occasions. I played with different bands: "Kalim Star", "Silly Authentique", "Mama Djiabate" (my aunt's band), with the Novotel jazz band in Guinea Conakry, with "Tintinba jazz" in the Ivory Coast.
I have been living in the UK for several years , play with various bands, like " Soothsayers"(recorded with them, as well),"Zubop Gambia", at various festivals ,like WOMAD, and with many other musicians . I also performed for the Queen , for Nelson Mandela and for President Bill Clinton.
The two tracks I put on here are both my creations. The title in Mandinka language is : M'Bekoumanla Mogolule which means Message to Human Beings.
The second one is called:Sabougnouman which means Good Luck or Good Fortune.
In my song "Message to Human Beings" I talk to people and the Spirit listens to me, I want to talk to people , the wind speaks to me. If I say something that is too hard for some people, I am sorry but I want to tell the Truth because lies catch up with us. If you want to be a family person, think about your children first. Before you buy things for yourself like a car , think first about where your children will sleep. Before you marry another woman, think first about what your children will do in the future.
There is a lot of good musicians here in London but people don't know about us . I am happy to be on Sellaband because people can get to know me. If you are in London, come and see me perform. Thank you to all my supporters. I love you.
You can write to me also if you want to invite me or want me to play ; I am here and ready. Please write to me at mosi_conde@yahoo.co.uk

Howdy!
Just wanted to pop in and give you a heads up on Sommersby's October Competition!
If you haven't already heard, the competition (hot on the heels of his recent neck-in-neck September fiesta) will offer 20 parts for the winner and is open to all artists that have between $9999 and $0 in budget.
Please check the forum for updates on contest rules and regs….starts 25 October!
This is a great opportunity for you. Campaign with the believers to let them know you'd like to be nominated and encourage them to vote for you when the time comes.
Of course, if you'd like to, or you know someone who would like to, donate parts for the prizes in the Competition, just send (or have them send) Sommersby the details under a message marked “October Donation."
Hope you join in on the fun and GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!!!

Mosi, where are you? I had high hopes for you! :-) I really like your stuff but I think I might bail and give my part to other artist. I'll keep checking back and will buy in again when you get active again. Take care.

I love your sound, especially on "Message To Human Beings". I hope to hear more soon and buy more parts as the funds come available. You are now one of my favorites.....right up there with Salif Keita.

I truly belive that Mosi is one the best young artists and musicians that I have ever seen. I took a picture of Mosi at the Notting Hill Carnival 2002, and I searched for him for almost 2 years before I finally met him. From that moment I became a believer. I have seen Mosi lifting the crowd with his music, I have seen Mosi making people dance.... Mosi can play different instruments including African traditional instruments as well as Western ones. Finally, I know that everbody who hears him wants to buy his CD. So let's support him to come out with his first album. Big Up Djellydeni |
