We are NEAR DEATH EXPERIMENT - A straight up Heavy metal band based in Dagenham, Essex.

Our music is all about dynamics - it combines pounding drums with interesting rhythms, unusual time signatures, Powerful but danceable riffs and vocals that range in style from death metal gutteral howling to soaring melodicism.

Our influences include: Carcass, Chimaira, Killswitch Engage, Tool, Pantera, Slipknot, Life of Agony, Atreyu, Helmet, Metallica, Alice In Chains, Fear Factory, Pig Destroyer & Machinehead...but we don't actually sound like any of these bands. We've been labelled Death Metal, Metalcore, even 'Groovecore'...Whatever that is?!

Our Current Line up is:

Gavin Bourne - Vocals, Headbanging, John Smiths.

Lewis Gale - Drums, Keyboards, Ginsters.

Neil Salmon - Bass, Bizarre screams, kicking off.

Kris Twyman - Guitar, Wearing black, Smiling.

Dean Wardell - Guitar, Artwork, Stressing out.

A Recent Review of us Live:

"A more focused metal act followed in NDE...the grooves were technical, heavy and very metal, everything from metalcore to grind to a KsE cover, and are getting better each time they play"

The band prides itself on its live performances and has played gigs at such venues as: Pacifice Edge (Romford), Bitter End (Romford) The Standard (Walthamstow), Musictek (Dagenham), Upstairs at the Garage (London), the White Swan (Aylesbury), Bar Monsta (Camden) & The Loaded Dog (Leytonstone). We're always ready to play so if you want to book us please let us know! In May 2007 They opened the Musictek Music Festival in Dagenhams Central Park.  For a full list of our previous gigs see below!

The bands origin lies with drummer Lewis Gale (Former guitarist with Keratose) who put them together in early 2005, Enlisting old friends Dean Wardell (Guitar), Steven Metcalfe (Guitar) and Luke Scowen (Bass).

They had all played together in the past at different times but something obviously clicked with the 4 of them and they began writing songs based on Lewis' ideas. They found Gavin Bourne (ex Faultline) the owner of vocals that can tear the skin clear off your face. They christened themselves 'BLUE HARVEST' and quickly began gigging, Eventually changing their name to NEAR DEATH EXPERIMENT in May 2006 (it's more metal!).

Luke Left to star in Gay Porn in Ipswich (the gay porn capital of the world) and the man with thunder in his fingers - Neil Salmon was drafted in as his replacement early in 2007. April 2007 also saw Steve leave the fold, and 9 months and one finger after he first threatened to join, Kris Twyman (Ex Faultline) stepped in on guitar duties. The new line up is already rocking harder than ever before.

There is a 4 track demo available featuring "THIRTEEN", "BROKEN", "FOR NO ONE" & "BLUE HARVEST (LIVE)".

CD's are available at our gigs or for only £3 (including postage & pakaging) we can delivery to your door. To order just click the button on Myspace. You can pay via your paypal account or by credit/debit card.

Here's a review of the CD from Dukester Promotions:

Now featuring two members of Romford hardcore merchants Faultline, NDE is a much more metal prospect with vocalist Gavin really expanding his range and the band finally coming to a proud sound of their own. Influences by various aspect of metal, they're groovy, pounding, fast, nasty and soar, sometimes within the confines of one song, especially on opener "Thirteen", while follower "Broken" is the groovecore of NDE yore. If Faith No More stuck to the sound they had on the track "Digging The Grave", this is what it'd sound like. "For No One", however, is their masterpiece, with a billion fake endings and returning to a quality riff in a new guise and you enjoy the ride every time.

T-Shirts will also be available again ASAP - we will have new designs (including black) soon as.

We're currently writing new material and booking gigs, so if you'd like to book us for a gig, please let us know.

27th November, 2007

The new song is finished and is now called "Burn your Bridges".  We played it live twice last week, went down a storm.  We also got a new bassist, the lovely Mudd.  He's fitting in nicely and rounding out the sound nicely.

For our london fans we have a gig in the 11th December @ the Hope & Anchor Islington.

October 26th, 2007

Did you miss us? We're back.  Lewis is a father and last night we had our first practice for what seems like an age.  The new song has lyrics, and the chorus is huuuuge!!  No word on a new bassist yet.

September 19th, 2007

Bad news alert - Neil has left the band.  It's amicable, we're just going in different directions.  He's already starting a new band, and we're looking for a new member!

September 12th, 2007

So last night we practiced, focusing on the song that came out of Kris's ideas.  The latter half of the song has been rearranged, and shockingly for NDE we've slowed the song down slightly!  It's going to be a good one!

September 7th, 2007

So we were on the radio last night, being interviewed by PhoenixFm (A local radio station in Essex.  Was very amusing.  We talked about our influences, best gigs, how the band was formed and what we've got planned for the future.  We also played the following songs:

NDE - For No One

Alice in Chains - Would?

Chimaira - Powertrip

NDE - Thirteen

Carcass - Heartwork

Atreyu - The Theft

Pantera - A New Level

Thanks to Nick for having us!

September 3rd, 2007

The new songs continue to take shape.  Gav is working out vocals, we're working out arrangements and trying out every possible idea we can think of.  It's fun!  Also, remember we're on the radio this thursday (6th) on

www.phoenixfm.com 10pm - 12 midnight!!

August 27th, 2007

Wow, it's been awhile - sorry about that.  We've been enjoying the summer and writing new tunes.  Last week we started a new song based on some of Kris' ideas and it's sounding HUGE!  It's going to be a monster!  the main riff is a lot more intricate and traditional than previous tunes and theres a an excellent 'thirteen' style middle section, plus a patented NDE style odd timed outro.

July 23rd, 2007

We've put another track up off of our demo - "Broken".  We like it a lot, and it's fun to play.  This and "Thirteen" were recorded in April 2007 at Big Noise Studios in Rochford.  We're really happy with how they sound.  "For No One" was recorded December 2006 at Musictek studios, then remixed in February 2007, to bring it more in line with what we wanted to hear.

Yesterday we finished the basics of a new song, based on an idea brought in by Neil, our bassist.  It's a straightforward thrasher, think we will put it at the end of the set cos its got a 'Davidian' style outro.  Gav has put lyrics on the verses, and theres a guitar solo from Kris too.  :-)  It's great to be writing again - Hopefully we can get a new 4 track demo out before Xmas!

9 DAYS DOWN, PDHM, NDE, VIA NEGATIVA
9 Days Down album launch night
Hardcore metal
The Bitter End, Romford 14/7/07
Occasionally you get a night where all bands are on fire, and despite only a few flaws, nothing could kill the electricity of this celebration of British hardcore metal dominance. Opener Via Negativa bursted out the traps and were not opener material, they were professional, tight and simply monsterous metal, speedy, heavy as sin and angry as fuck. Seek 'em out. Near Death Experiment had to follow and managed to play the gig of their lives and have finally found their sound, their groove-core bass heavy rhythms tighened up making their wicked intelligent take on metalcore and riffy arrangements as vicious as vocalist Gavin's bile and spit. But the long going PDHM looked like they were gonna steal the night, so intense were they that the stage literally fell apart beneath them before the first chorus. But they didn't skip a beat, and their hardcore attitude made their melodic rock even more hearfelt and brutal and really made the point, the riffs were wicked and the two singers really were two different sides of a coin and really owned the crowd. 9 Days Down, who were here to launch their debut album "A Sign Of Things To Come", however, did not disappoint; the band trying to keep up with the best drummer in the world (well he certainly acted like it) with shredding (like, proper shredding) solos and bassy riffs while the singer whipped the crowd into a moshing frenzy behind a whole front row of headbangers showing their appreciation throughout their entire true hardcore set. Its a beautiful sight.

Hello Sellaband Believers, Dean (Guitar, Vocals) here with our first sellaband blog.

Thanks for listening to our music and taking an interest in our little band.

We're looking forward to our gig on the 14th, then the plan is to spend a few weeks writing new material and booking some new gigs...and we want to record a few new tracks too.  We've been playing "Descending" Live for a while - can't wait to have a studio version - it's face peelingly good!

If you have any questions for us, don't hesitate to ask!
