Nicol is a singer and a songwriter from Latvia. She's recordred and presented 2 albums in Russian and Latvian languages, very succesfuly in Latvia. The fragments of her songs and her albums you can get here :

She starts to perform from 5 years old, basically singing Russian and Ukrainian folk music and later romances and russian hits accompany herself on guitar.
Nicol is a Master of Sport in Artistic gymnastics. It was her occupation about 10 years. In the same time, she played piano in music school and sung in amateur collectives.
"I'm influenced most of all by Soul and Gospel, but also R&B and pop music. It bigan with Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson and continued with Christina Aguilera repertoire, later Beyonce, Alicia Keys, George Michael, Destiny’s Child, Blu Cantrell, Faith Evans… - these were my primary artists. Now I listen more carefully to blues, jazz, latin, funk artists and instrumental music as well, because these styles always had a strong influence on contemprorary music culture .
Having a good success with my coloratura soprano voice at the Latvian Music Academy for two years as an opera singer I realised that this genre needs me more than I could give phisiclally and spiritually, coz all my time I've given for creating my original material, my songs, recording albums, presenting them, performing...I’ve received enormous experience in Music Academy, but I've understand -it's not the derection I would like to develop. "

Her first step in composing English songs was the composition “One More Dance”, which was recognized as the best by International Jury on the national Eurovision contest in 2003. The following years Nicol continue to take part in Eurovision contest, recording and producing her original songs. "The song “Eurovision Fever” were recorded specially for this occasion and has a message in my lyrics: “Don’t be afraid, let’s be brave! There are no limits when you pay with your passion, heart and pain…” "
I just have finished a special 2 year program "Modern Music Rhythms"
(where primary accent was jazz )and trully hope to continue my education abroad.
I think, that Sellaband gives you, dear Believers, a real possibility to b involved in the creative process, that's AMAZING!

I became a believer in Nicol because she has a raw, yet polished sound. The songs stuck in my head - in a good way - and kept coming back to me throughout the day. Nicol's energy, I felt, was an extra plus. |
