Biography
Beach is a 5 piece original band. It was formed in 1998 by it’s two principal
songwriters, Jessie Coutts and Mathurin Molgat. Beach is melodic pop on smooth
grooves with a South Pacific twist.
Beach performed as showcase artists at the 2000 NXNE Music Festival in
Toronto and were featured performers at the APRA Silver Scroll Awards in
New Zealand. Beach have performed in Canada, New Zealand and Australia.
The first beach album was recorded at Metalworks, I Level and Kensington
Sound Studios in Toronto and at Revolver Studios in New Zealand. It was mixed
at Revolver and York Street in NZ. It was recorded to 2†analogue, ADAT and
Pro Tools and mixed to 1/2†tape. Digital editing was done by Blair Robb at
Audio Alchemy in Toronto and by L.Stu Young in New Zealand. The album was
produced by Iain McNally and beach and engineered by L.Stu Young and Iain
McNally.
The new beach album will be released soon...
The beach sound is warm and smooth, lyrically intelligent grooves with a Pacific

Brooding, dream-like and sophisticated, Beach, with it’s
songwriting team of Jessie Coutts and Mathurin Molgat,
shimmers with musical maturity. Coutts’ voice - the CDs
centerpiece - sits on a bed of heavily processed guitars,
keyboards and percussion at times blending to become
another instrument. “Janey†features a hypnotic vocal refrain
which gets under the skin. Unusual but effective song
structures and loping, sometimes brooding grooves
reminiscent of UK band Portishead.    - Kevin Thomas- Mountain Scene
