Info
My family moved around alot throughout my childhood. Music became an island I could live on from which no one could evict me.
My music has three main influences: grooves from world music, the European classical tradition and the freedom of jazz. I have combined all three.
I like to improvise. I like to write symphonically and I love to groove.
I work on my own and also with musicians who have a similar outlook. For example the Cuban bass player Rey Crespo, drummers from Brazil and Mozambique Eduardo Marques and Helder Pack.
A big influence on me was Dudu Pukwana with whom I played for three years.
I have written music for small and large ensembles including choral and orchestral works.
My main vehicle is The Blue Planet Orchestra. It comprises a 3 piece rhythm section, 2 horns and a wonderful singer from Ghana - "V".

Howdy!
Just wanted to pop in and give you a heads up on Sommersby's October Competition!
If you haven't already heard, the competition (hot on the heels of his recent neck-in-neck September fiesta) will offer 20 parts for the winner and is open to all artists that have $9999 or less in budget on 25 October.
This is a great opportunity for you. Let all your believers know you'd like to be nominated and encourage them to vote for you when the time comes.
Of course, if you'd like to, or you know someone who would like to, donate parts for the prizes in the Competition, just send (or have them send) Sommersby the details under a message marked “October Donation."
Hope you join in on the fun and GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!!!
