A fancy cocktail of hand-made rockmusic, in-your-face crossover and a pinch of groovy funk vibes gives their music the characteristic spice.
Bands like ROOGA have become kind of rare in Austria's music scene.
No TV-castings, no artificial media hype, just honest love for music makes up the foursome from Vienna.
If you've ever listened to ROOGA you probably know what it's all about: loud,hot,edgy and catchy as hell,candy for your ears.
It all started back in 2006 at a jam session in a basement in Liesing, one of Vienna's districts.
After various band members had come and left the current line-up of ROOGA turned out to be: Klaus on drums, Alex on guitars, bass player Victor and centre of attention: Kati, who, once listened to, won't disappear from your ears and eyes.
No time was wasted in the following months, tunes were written, a demo cd was recorded and lots of gigs were played.
The band even achieved to win the nationwide Local Heroes band competition and rose to be Austria's newcomerband for 2006.
Guest performances at festivals and great gigs like in legendary Chelsea paved their way to success.
In autumn the band went on tour to conquer the rest of the republic of the Alps(e.g.Innsbruck,Graz,Klagenfurt,..)
In early 2007 ROOGA got nominated for this year's Project Pop! sampler and won the International Live Award 2007 as best out of more than 1000 bands from 5 nations.
Plans have already been made for numerous other concerts and on top of that: the first ROOGA full length album is about to be released in february/march 2008 so stay tuned.

12/27/07 - we wish you a merry christmas and a happy new year!
But before we leave for christmas holidays, we have to announce that ROOGA has now a fifth band member!!!
A warm welcome to Elmar Franken, who is now our second man on the guitar!!!

So, celebrate the bank holidays and the new year, and we`ll meet again in 2008!!!
10/25/07 - ROOGA felt the spirit of Austrian rock-legend Falco when they played last Thursday at Vienna`s U4. The gig was sensational - a lot of people and a very good atmosphere!
Therefore, we forgot the glitches which happened before the concert immediately. What exactly happened, you can read in our diary at http://www.rooga.at.
You can also find pictures of the concert together with some backstage impressions there.
The reason for our gig at U4 was the release party of the new music magazine "stagedive".
In the first edition, there is also an article of ROOGA, in some days you can download the file from http://www.rooga.at.
As autumn is coming very quickly we decided to heat you heart with some funky nu rock.
Therefore ROOGA will play some gigs around Austria. The opening of our little tour will be at 9th november in Innsbruck (Hafen). After that we will come back to our hometown vienna to play at "Rhythm! Festival" at WUK (together with Excuse Me Moses).
On the following day there will be a special premiere. ROOGA are gonna playing in Munich their first gig in Germany at 16th november togehter with JB`s First. After that, on 17th november we will cross the boarder again and get on stage in Salzburg (Rockhouse) at 18th november.

09/20/07 - Summer in Austria is gone and ROOGA is coming.
The Viennese Funky Nu Rock Combo will conquer the whole country during autumn. From Vorarlberg in the west of Austria, Innsbruck, Linz and back to Vienna, ROOGA is gonna rock the stages of the nation.
There are the dates for the ROOGA autumn/winter gigs
4th Oktober 2007: Wien, B72, Collapse Club t/w Incorporated
6th Oktober 2007: Linz (OÖ), Posthof
9th November 2007: Innsbruck (T), Hafen
10th November 2007: Rankweil (VBG), Altes Kino
15th November 2007: Wien, WUK, Rhythm! Festival
17th November 2007: Salzburg, Rockhaus
14th Dezember 2007: Judenburg (STMK), Rock'n Roses
We would specially invite you to our gig in Vienna at B72 at 4th october 2007. It will be not the only concert in our hometown for this year, but we are planning some special surprises!
Tickets can be bought at Jugendinfo (Babenbergerstraße) for 6 euro or directly before the concert for 8 euro.
Besides, we are going to finish the production of our first album. Things are going really well, so just stay tuned!

08/30/07 - ROOGA will be playing on Vienna's musicexpo (http://www.musicexpo.at) on 9th september at 2 p.m..
One week before, on 2th september there will be a special about the musicexpo on Vienna's radio channel 88,6 from 1 to 8 p.m..
Bands playing at the musicexpo will be featured and one song will be played.
Therefore, also the music of ROOGA will be on air!
Moreover, there will be a voting for the best song of the musicexpo!
So please feel free to vote for ROOGA.
Unfortunately, we don't know yet, if the voting will be per telephone or internet.
So please turn on your radio on 2th september at 1 p.m., go to frequency 88,6 and listen to the program to get the information!
08/20/07 - After two stops on our "ROOGA summer tour '07" at "sziget-festival" in Budapest and "pictureOn" in Bildein we are back in Vienna.
The journey to Budapest was really exciting! Both, coming to stage and playing as headliner was a special adventure. After staying one day for relaxing in Budapest, we went directly through the Hungarian puszta to the next festival in Bildein.
It's a nice village near to the Austrian/Hungarian boarder, where we had the chance to rock on stage with great bands like Soulfly or the Mad Caddies.
On our website http://www.rooga.at you can find our impressions about the two tourstops and some pictures! Besides, you can take a look at some studio-reports!
Next saturday, 25th august 2007, we will be on stage again at "Rock The Park" festival in Groß Gerungs!
And on 9th september 2007 we will play the first time at "Stadthalle" in Vienna at the Musicexpo!

Hören sich ja schonmal gut an, die Songschnipsel... Besonders interessant finde die neue Version von "ME", im Vergleich zur alten Version. Ein gänzlich anderer Anfang, und dann erkennt man den Song doch wieder :-)

Austria is on fire with musical talent at present and Rooga represent the next success for sure. I wish I could support these guys more. That said 2008 may well give more opportunities. Solidtube, Kontrust and Rooga in Vienna is mouthwatering to say the least. Good luck guys. |
