Info
It all starts in March 2002 when the band Seeus having a singing drummer is looking for a front-man, and singer-songwriter David Kroese feels the urge to play in a band. They find each other and on the 26th of September 2002, the band presents her debut album “Giving Yourself Away” in front of a packed venue P60 in Amstelveen. This album draws the attention of 3FM, which gives Seeus the opportunity to play live in their studio on the 18th of December 2002.
Following that performance, Seeus starts to conquer the clubs in Amsterdam in early 2003. They play in well-known venues such as the Melkweg, Winston and the P60. In the same period, the band also makes it to finals of renowned pop contests such as the Battle of the Bands and the Winston Pop Prize. Moreover, the singing duo Bart and Dave win the singer-songwriter contest “de Bronzen Buurvrouw” by playing songs of the band.
In this period with many gigs, the band writes a host of songs in which the sound of Seeus becomes more and more distinct. Three of these songs are recorded and released at the end of 2004 on a cd-single named “Who Can Say”, which receives a warm welcome in the music press.
2005 is characterized by a variety of gigs: small intimate venues, larger clubs as well as massive festivals are on the tour schedule. Moreover, Seeus appears on the collection-cd “Ontzettend Leiden”. The new material written in this period, will find its way to the stages in 2006.
The press about “Who Can Say”:
“The Amsterdam-based Seeus is holding a winning card by incorporating balanced harmonies in their guitar pop. The constant threat that is posed by drummer singer/guitarist Kroese is never in the way of the emotional outbursts of drummer Bennink. (…). The band seems to be aware of its own abilities by letting atmosphere and subtlety come together neatly.” (LIVE-XS)
"Drummer Bart Bennink and singer David Kroese are the center of Seeus from Amsterdam. The [title track] is a quiet, beautifully built-up song full of melancholy and despair. The opening track [Gone To Stay] is a tight and well-written rock song that bounces boldly out of your speakers. “Sympathize” (…) is the most catching song of the single and keeps ringing in your ears. Especially this one is beyond any doubt suitable for playing on 3FM radio.” (FRET)
