So What_

So What's 50k plan

It took some time to write this 50k plan. It’s not something you can do in a hour or two, we tried to put something on paper (screen) in wich we can give our believers a good sight about 'So What' and what will happen in the future. Before we start we have to get some things straight; first of all we want to tell you that we are Dutch guys, our English is good but every now and then we make some mistakes, sorry for that. The second thing we want to tell you before we start is more important. At the moment we write this we are close to the 25k, its still a long long way to the top. Things can change on the way up, this 50k plan may change in the future. We don’t know how much things cost, what the options are and what is possible (and what is not possible). Don’t be angry if our album contains some different things than we said in our 50k plan. This plan contains the things we want, and we hope the things that are possible. Finally, we can start.

The album

So What is a young band. In this formation (the 4 of us) we exist almost a year. Without being cocky we can say we have written some pretty decent songs in the past. Some say that we've got songs with 'hit potential', we hope we have! We want to make an album, on which we and our believers can be proud.

First of all. We want to make a real album. An album. Our album won’t be part of a huge trilogy or be a story telling album. It will contain songs, which people will be singing allong with. Songs that people will like, it will be an album that people will listen over and over again. An album that people will buy. We hope we can get along with the new wave of rock bands that make fame these days, deep in our hearts we know we can.

At the moment we have 10 songs on which we are confident enough to say that we can put them on a record. For the people who where at the “All Access” gig in Paradiso, those where some of the songs we think we can put on the album. Besides that there are 3 songs 'in the making', we think these songs are becoming really good. Although no one heard them before. We want to make an album with 12 songs on it. The album will give a good representation of the band at this moment, and will be fun from the first note till the last!

Some songs that will be on the album:

Keep on running (of course)

Johnny Day (A happy 'light' song, with fun lyrics)

Office Romance (other style then Keep on Running, to dance on)

Dirty Song ( one of the 'heaviest' So What songs, will give the album that 'hard edge')

The Man ( A ballad)

Dark Haired treasure (Great starter!)

Sister dance (Slow dark song, with a big heavy exitlude. In our opinion the most experimental So What song. Good for the variety on the album)

And lots of other songs....

We don’t know which producer or A&R manager we 'want' yet. We are looking for someone who can get us to a real new level, you don’t find such a person everyday. Maybe our producer will be Dutch, but there is a big chance that he/she is English. Not only because of our style of music (which you can say is 'British') but also because a foreign producer will get us to another level then other Dutch bands with Dutch producers, which can help us to get more attention (which means selling more albums) But then again we really don’t know which producer we want, as long he can ad something really special to So What.

About the lay-out. We want a really good looking album, we don’t think that these days people buy their albums (only) because there’s music on it. People buy their albums because they want to hold something beautiful (the music can be downloaded anyway). There are some really cool looking albums these days, the quality of the paperback Sellaband-albums is really amazing, we only need someone who can make us a good logo and lay-out. Something in which we really get attention in the music-stores!

We want our 'image' to come back in our album, but not only on our album. Also our website, clothes and everything that has to do with So What shall have the so what style. So every one who sees something they will immediately think; 'Heeey, So What'

Now. Some facts and things about us and the album:

• We play our own instruments so we don’t need to hire any musicians (this costs a lot!), Vincent (Bassist) can even play the violin. This means we can spend more money on other things, such as promotion and of course the music quality.
• We don’t have a name for the album yet. But we got a lot of ideas, if you as a believer got some ideas to pm us!
• We wont launch a single. We think this is not useful in this era of internet. People will pick out a song, we hope radio and TV stations will do this to.
• Now that we are all on university, it means we can arrange things with our school(take some time off). So we will have time to record our album.
• The album will be recorded in Holland. Recording our album in Wales (or something) will only cost more money, which we now can spend on the music instead of travelling!

  
  

  After we hit the 50k

  
  

  We know it will take some time, but maybe some day we will hit the 50k. At that moment we wont be sitting and waiting to record our album. We immediately will go and try to promote the fact that we hit the 50k in the Dutch (and worldwide) media. There are a lot of websites and radio shows that will want to have a interview about that. This is a good thing, it means more attention to SAB and people will know our name. Even before we have an album out. We hope the SAB-team will help us with that. It will also gives us some guarantees that if we have the album out, we can come back and talk about the album in the radio shows and websites.

  
  

  Album promotion

  
  

  Promotion is one of the most important things in the music business. See musicians like 'Britney Spears', its not about the music its about the story. Once our album is finished we will try to start a tour, first through our own country (Holland). And maybe later through other countries. We hope this will get us a lot attention, and will get us some gigs at big festivals. We hope the SAB-team will help us with that again. We know we have the show, and the power, to make a real cool stage act and get a real good name. We will try to get our young face and voices on the radio and TV as much as possible, let everybody know we have a great album!

  
  

  Now comes some crazy So What plan. We where thinking how we could get some attention to ourselves, and at that moment we thought Asia! There are some bands that started in Asia and are now big across the whole world (think of the English indie-band The Wombats, they started in Asia but are now a real hype). A small tour through Japan or China will get us very much media attention. And we hope that we can get some fans at the other side of the planet. We already see some believers from Hong Kong and Singapore in our list, so we know we have a good chance. Of course it costs something, but we think we can manage to get the money together and start a real adventure.

  Of course we are thinking about a video clip, we can do this with little money. If it looks professional we can send the video to, lets get crazy: MTV. And just see what they will do with it. On the album there will be several songs with 'hit potential' so we think why not...

  We are not really sure what to put on the LE yet. We want to give our believers something special, that’s for sure. Maybe we keep it as a secret, a big surprise until the album comes out!
