Geneva-based production duo SUMO was founded in 1999 by the Sumi brothers: Fred and Alex. They complement each other well: Fred is a bass player, composes, produces and mixes the music.Alex the guitar player, sings and writes the lyrics. Their music is always funk influenced, very warm and soulful.From 2000 to 2004 they released on their own label Chiz Records four vinyl EPs and their first album Before The Sun. All supported by international press and a wide-range of top international level DJs (Deep Dish, Gilles Peterson, John Digweed, Pete Tong, Roger Sanchez) as well as various tracks on international compilations such as Fashion TV, In House We Trust 4 and The House of Yo released on Yoshitoshi.
Rise (2006) is their much anticipated second album for Swiss electronic label Mental Groove. After their successful «Do Me Like» remixed by Chab (Azuli, Saw), «So Bad» is the second single extract from the album. Forthcoming single «Makin’ Love & Music» remixed by Morgan Page will be released in 2007.More dancefloor oriented, this new album reflects the energy that the band reveals on stage with a funky electronic music groove. High energy driven, the band performs live in a unique styleseducing clubs in Paris, London and New-York.

· «So Bad» their second single is «an extra-funky house cut with tight house beats and delicious grooves under a euphoric male vocal sample».
· «Rise« is their much anticipated second album mastered in New York by Tom Coyne (Jamiroquai, Sade, Roots) released on Swiss label Mental Groove (Miss Kittin, Luciano). More dancefloor oriented, this new album reflects the energy that the band reveals on stage with a funk groove close to their original musical roots.
· «Do Me Like», first SUMO single delivered out of their new album remixed by Chab (Saw Records, Azuli) who previously worked on remix for Depeche Mode, Gorillaz and Nelly Furtado.
· SUMO features on the new Couleur 3 compilation «Métissages» on V2 records and «Pure Echoes Vol.1» on Molto Recordings.
2005
· Finalist of the contest «Eurockéennes de Belfort» organised by national radio Couleur 3, SUMO is broadcasted on the airwaves. Swiss channels (TSR, TVM3, Sf2, Léman Bleu) play their
video « Get yourself together ».· Worldwide release of the CD compilation «House of Yoshi»: The Collection » on Yoshitoshi, featuring «Yes We Will» from SUMO’s first album «Before The Sun ».
· This is the second time SUMO appears on Yoshitoshi, the famous American Dj’s Deep Dish (Dance Award Winner) label, whose compilation is touring through all the US dance clubs, sponsored by Pioneer DJ Tour.
· The band hits the stage all over Switzerland and grows a fan base.
