Early version of this "band" was called HAPPIER THAN YOU, at the end of the 90's. Recorded more than 300 songs (from Heavy, to Grungy, to Pop, to Slow Ballads, to Acoustic, to Fully-Orchestrated, or even Electro and then some, HTY touched to just about everything) then disbanded, around 2006, due to too many unsolvable problems. But a lot of the good stuff that was in HAPPIER THAN YOU is still around and very well with SUPERMASSIVE QUAzAR : good melodies, raunchy guitar riffs, emotions, pop-heavy rock songs, interesting lyrics, and a desire to be a little bit different from the mass while remaining Pop-oriented... This project was started around 2006, at a time I was jumping from music contract to music contract, never to be fully understood, never to fall into the right hands... The songs of PULzE were actually created to be sung by a girl... but none of the girls I discovered were able to surpass the original recordings, unfortunately. After years of (uselessly) searching for the right one, I've decided it was more than time to move on to other (and much bigger) things, leaving these enjoyable recordings as they were... Well, let's give it a try: Most of the Tribune content is User Generated, like the piece on the Zwoel gig where Ninthe was going to perform. We did not write that article, the guy who organised the gig did.

Adam Sieff writes a weekly column in which he spots remarkable newbies. Apparently he must have been impressed by the 50 seconds he heard. He has total freedom to include what he wants. I don't make that selection.

People write to us, asking to be featured and if they have something intersting or newsworthy to report we give them space.

The only selection I make is the weekly Q + A and that is primarily based on rise in budget of people who have not been featured before.

*I've been here everyday since I joined. EVERYDAY. And VERY active, too.

*I tried to make it all as interesting as possible, from my songs to the forums, to the "chats", to projects like The Collaboration Project to Alter Ego week (where I put MORE than 12 VERY different songs up and got many good comments/reviews about them) and MORE...

*Made friends (and good ones, too) here (that unfortunately don't really invest anymore and I TOTALLY understand why now).

*I even made a song SELLABAND - STUCK AT 130$, because I tried to spice things up because my parts hadn't move in 12 days, no matter how much publicity I tried to make (and my songs DON'T suck, I've had 3 record/publishing deals - I KNOW they don't suck!).

*This song above is, by the way, getting more attention on Amiestreet (and you can call it free publicity for you, how nice of me, huh?) and on myspace. Terrific, huh?

*Got to the 9th position in the charts one week and no one paid any attention anyway ("rise of budget of people not featured before", hmph!).

*Got played only once by Talentcast (probably just another "impartial" thing, right?) even though I've sent 3 songs, sent e-mails and put comments up there. Plus I had to beg and moan to get that play.

*And more…

And you tell me that Ninthe's lame 50 seconds snippet won over ME? That it's more "remarkable" that ALL the damn stuff I've written above???

And not just me. ALL of the "newbies" altogether...

How many freakin' newbies did as much as that, tell me??? For many here I'm considered like the hardest working moron on sellaband.

And yet you don't understand why I truly believe that I'm being laughed in my face and that there IS preferences on sellaband?

All of this shouldn't surprise me, but I'm nonetheless VERY disappointed...

P.S.

I could go on rambling about MANY other things here (like the fact that, very strangely, there's only 1 artist from Canada that is over 1K, that even with MOST of my parts removed I'm STILL 2nd/3rd in the alternative section in Canada (with only a small 100$ in parts)), but you'll probably gonna give me another classic by-the-book corporate answer just to get your point across...

I'm sorry, but I'm very disappointed... like I said before having a music contract IS a popularity contest, but the difference is that with a "real" contract, they actually REALLY WANT to discover new artists BEFORE deciding if they put you on a shelve collecting dust or not...

I believe this won't change a thing, because you are just as convinced you don't do preferences as I am convinced that you do, but at least I got it out of my chest.

Feel free to ignore these complaints like many others on the site...

Oooohhh, people are pissed.
I'm having much more fun on sellaband since I have decided to actually speak my mind freely, and by that I mean saying how HQ runs this box in a real pissy way.

People aren't happy with what I write : cry me 2 fucking rivers.

Before I go on and on, I'll just say that I fully agree and support Isca's (Chris) Blog, and with Kristen's-by now famous-post (for further comprehension of this blog, read them - scratch that : Read them anyway!), among others...
Both got ignored by HQ, but that's nothing to be surprised with, seeing as they don't say or do much, and when they do, it's nothing to be amazed at.

Maybe I'd like to clarify for those slow enough that I "don't hate sellaband".
The concept is very good in my opinion.
It's just handled in a very, very poor way.
Sellaband - YOU are the record company.
Well, in a way, it IS true.
You will have to sell your own CDs, you will have to get believers (the hard way) yourself, book yourself shows, you will have to buy parts to "prove" that you are serious, you will have to build popularity before you get listened to (because talent and good songs are FAR from enough around here), you'll have to wait to get the "approval from cool believers" to get listened to, you will have to... wait, the list is just way too long!
Let's see what I think here...

HQ running this place like shit? - Great news people! 5M coming in... it's been, what, 2+ weeks and we have no fucking clue yet what it means! Loads of complaints, artists leaving almost everyday, believers almost just as much... people still have no fucking clue where to stand. Big news are always "coming", yet we get big fucking nada.
Of course, some people prefer just to hide their head in the sand.
That'll fix things, right?
That's the solution, right?

I own a store. And when shit hits the fan, you HAVE to react. Not in 2-3 weeks. NOW!

Sellaband turning into a REAL popularity contest? - Not at all! All I saw is Ninthe getting (twice) in the tribune, yet doesn't have a complete song in her profile (and the first time around, she didn't even HAVE a goddamn profile - way to fucking go HQ! See that comporate move? A sign of things to come? Popularity contest?). I feel bad for those struggling artists trying everyday... slap in the face from the master for your reward.

Aren't I the drama queen...

And I predict the Collaboration Project will do just the same...

I also enjoy the fact that some people are so in love with a concept they seem to lose all track of good sense. Got pms, e-mails from artists sharing their frustration (and not just about the Ninthe/Tribune thing), but are afraid of speaking their mind. And seeing how believers react when I speak my mind on those matters, I'd say they are better off saying nothing at all.

As for me, I just don't give a shit.

I also been informed that this happened before. Bring in a big name it'll do good for you, me, sellaband and maybe even for aliens from another world. Anyone remembers the last time? No? I wonder why...
Those who do remember... care to tell me where it brought us?

So instead of planning for "popular artists", "big names", "future stars in a box" and all that... why not trying to find a GEM from HERE?

Haven't blogged in a little while, so I'll take a few minutes here and refresh things up for a bit.
Still extremely busy, but not to the point I'm biting more than I can chew.
Good thing I can chew a lot!
TEARS OF HEL, SUPERMASSIVE QUAzAR, HAPPIER THAN YOU, The Collaboration Project, ''Follow Me", maybe a song for a SUV commercial (not gonna happen, but still lots of fun!), A Silent Hill project... it's going to be a VERY interesting year!

Still working on the Collab ('Boogie down the train' is changing, changing, changing)... Cavefish had cool ideas for it. Might very well turn out like a good, solid Rock song.

I now feel comfortable enough to go and try something else I haven't done in a while. Take the lyrics of someone and try to build a song around it.
It's totally contrary to how I usually work (not that I don't think lyrics are important - not at all - but I find it easier to adapt lyrics rather than adapt a melody or a musical part).
In this particular case, everything went smooooothly from all sides (so far!).
Hope the result is going to ge acceptable.

Should be in studio also on April the 2nd, and it looks like we might have another cool rock song in the making : Mister Junk Molo.

We'll see how it goes...

So far so good...

Ok... Let's see where we're at :

Amiestreet :
Today, your songs have been REC'd 6 times and listened to 53 times.
In less than 12 hours.
Yestersay, I've been listened to at least 96 times, and REC'd at least 7 times also (couldn't check between 9h30pm & Midnight).
In one week, my album went from free to $1.24.
Now @ $1.34.
Other album went from free to $0.72 (only 4 songs), with virtually no push.

Sellaband :
Here I've been listened to 3 times, in 48+ hours (SO impressive).
Tried to be apart the collaboration - guess what, I'm still waiting JUST to get a point of view (not necessarly a collab, just pointers (any) on how 'Boogie Down The Train' could be a better song).
Weird thing is, I have a friend who said a television series here in Quebec could be interested in the SAME song (and a few others) - yet no one here bothers to even listen to my stuff. Deal with that, Dom!
Tried this week to get ANY airplay @ Talent cast - nothing! Big nada!
Hundreds of song in there, I got blank!

Guess my songs suck just way too much...

Or I'm too impatient... (at 3 hits in 48+ hours, no parts sold in a week+, I should be in business around 2366 if I'm lucky - but be patient, Dom!)
Maybe I should call back my old Managers/Producers to let them know they must've been crazy believing in me...

I also recieved 2 calls this week, from 2 possibly interested labels/management.
Maybe I should tell'em that I get 3 hits in 48+hours here - that'll impress them!

Met a bunch of the sellabanders on the chat (working!), added myself to the Army of Sellaband for a music collaboration.
Lot of good people with good ideas here, a lot of people inspired. A lot of people just trying to do the same as I.
It's great and I can't wait to see it grow. Result is gonna be amazing!

SUPERMASSIVE QUAzAR Album reached GRAND total of $1.16.
It ain't madness - only after 6 days - thing are moving there but not quite here...
HAPPIER THAN YOU songs @ 0.60 cents.

My friend and I developped an idea that could do just well here. It's a long process, but could be great! We'll see soon enough if it can be done...

Another Artist reached the big 30K today. I'm sure it's only a matter of little time until 50K - well deserved!

Busy... I'm surprised I had enough time to come here and blob briefly.

I'm really surprised and pleased the more I come here at sellaband.

People are great and it feels good to be surrounded with passionate artists. Everybody believes in their craft and there's a nice vibe of people collectively helping each other.

Congratz to Kaitee btw.

Took the advice of charmander and got a page up at amiestreet.com to get just a bit more noticed.

This is my first blog ever, so bear with me (or don't, I really don't care)

I think I'll just go randomly. Maybe I'll get more focused as time goes by.

JUST FACTS!

I had never played guitar or composed music before I saw Nirvana's Unplugged in May 1994. A little more than 10 years after, I got 300+ FULLY composed+recorded songs under the belt and a few music contracts/publishing deals as well.

Guess you don't know if you have a talent for something until you try it... right?

I have a hard time compromising, espescially when it comes to music and arts. That got me lots of fun times with music producers when I was under contracts.

My idea of fun is usually weird, simple and/or absurd.

I get bored EXTREMELY quickly. I do mean EXTREMELY.

I tend to hate people who think they know you well after spending 5 minutes with you.

I usually enjoy more things that are 'out of the box', different, unexplainable and/or that are left to people's interpretation.

I have the tendency of doing things I'm passionate about to the extremes. For music and art, it's great. For other things, it's really not and can be devastating.

Am reading Plato's The Republic at this moment - and for the 3rd time. Great, great read.

I seem to confuse a lot of people. I think I enjoy that.

I recently got the new SILENT HILL ORIGINS soundtrack. And it matters not one bit if I had to pay 50$+ to get it. Akira Yamaoka is one of my fav composers.

I'm an avid reader of Biographies. Just (re)finished 'Heavier Than Heaven' (Nirvana/Cobain bio) & 'How To Make Love Like A Pornstar - A Cautionary Tale' (Jenna Jameson bio).

I have a hard time believing in humans, and giving trust.

I really enjoy Heavy Rock bands with female vocals.

Don Booth is lying to you. I only posted his details from his jewellry website which he had as a link (the only text!) on his SAB profile to point out he and another person weren't as independent as they tried to make out. He violated his privacy, not me, by placing his ad on his profile.

In addition, we have not been mentioned in any tribune during or after the incident - Dons friends band went to another funding method and tried to take the SAB beleivers with them, Obviously it wasn't popular with the beleivers, who saw it as an attack on their choice to invest in many other bands here.

Only 4k in two years? So what? We get more than money out of this community.

Looks like you have your money now, so I wish you all the best. Don't let others with their own angendas poison you though, man...
