The Colour of Time - Retro Melody Magic

www.myspace.com/thecolouroftime

Emerging from rich, melodic waves of synth washes & echo laden vocals the Colour of Time's signature sound is a cerebral, mood driven mixture of styles. The audible influence of Tangerine Dream, Cabaret Voltaire & early Ultravox blurs into shadowy reminiscence of Dead Can Dance defining a sound which falls somewhere between the early output of labels such as 4AD, ON-U Sound and Waxtrax.

Between 1998 & 2006 Jamie O'Callaghan has embarked on a musical voyage embracing a legacy of electronic & classical influences ranging from Debussy to Kraftwerk. With a strong musical background rooted firmly in classical origins his first solo work came from a symphonic / progressive rock angle receiving accalim in the pages of dutch prog-rock magazine IO. Inspired to continue along similar lines Jamie enlisted the help of Hans Schepens and around 2001 The Colour of Time was formed in Eindhoven. An intitial 'Queen's Day' live performance was followed by their first recorded album 'Jazz, but not as we know it'. COT's next studio outing, 'Let the machine talk' maintained a progressive edge with a nod to the cold, mechanical rhythms of John Foxx. Evidence of another strong influence on COT's music is present here.

Another native live appearance at the Muzenval Theatre in Eersel was followed by the third album 'Amber Skies'. Emerging idealogical differences between Hans Schepens & Jamie O'Callaghan lead to a split in 2003 leaving Jamie to pursue COT as a solo project. 2004 brought the recording of 'Neon', a collection of sparse instrumental offerings edging toward the dancefloor. After returning from a solo tour of the Czech Republic COT performed electronic renditions of Debussy & Satie pieces at a charity event organised for victims of the atrocities of Beslan. Encore performances of Ultravox classics Hiroshima Mon Amour & Just For a Moment were well recieved by all in attendance.

After the loss of a friend to cancer in early 2005 COT ceased production until Jamie re-established contact with an old colleague in the UK, John Curry. They collaborated to record 'Long Ago' produced in the Netherlands & the UK. Maintaining the characterisitic COT sound Long Ago has a broader oulook offering upbeat energy & thoughful moments. It also marks a return to vocal territory with compliments of sitar, violin & lusher production all round. John Curry has since remained part of the COT Line up.

2006 has seen a fresh line up for COT and 2 new recordings. Neon Winds, recorded in February, is an ep awash with ambient panoramas of vintage synth & hypnotic, female vocal drones. A substantial taste of the mellower moments glimpsed in previous releases. Memories of Water, completed in August is the newest collection of compositions and alongside Neon Winds possibly COT's strongest to date.

Jamie O'Callaghan has recently composed 'theremin concertos with Orchestra' for the Theremin soloist Lady Sayoko of Japan. He is also recording new material for another musical project A Better Blue.

The Colour of Time are:
Jamie O’Callaghan: Voice, Theremin, electric violin/viola, electronics Sitar
Linda Swinkel: Voice
Melanie Nijs: electronics, vocoder
John Curry: Guitar, electronics (Collaborated from A Better Blue)
Tjitse Letterie: Violins

Please have a listen on the myspace accounts. I should get the new mp3s for sellaband by next week!

9th March 2008
The master is finished!!
:D Jamie has gone to Austria for 2 weeks, building a studio, but when he returns, we'll be able to release the new cd in the open.

3th February 2008
The first demo is recorded.
We have thought seriously about forgetting the whole album as it won't be what we wished for, but we decided to keep working on the album.

12th December 2007
Looking for a new singer. The cd will be finished (soon I hope), but for now we can't do much without Linda, we got so many missing parts now.. But we're thinking of a solution!

17th November 2007
Preproduction of the cd is finished!

5th November 2007
We have started the recording of our new album as Linda's voice is getting better. She's taking it very slow, which is something we all agree to. Health always comes first!

I also got some bad news: Linda quits due to domestic problems. Combining a family and regular rehearsals+other things in our "bandlife" isn't so easy after all... We're looking for a new singer now. We got our hopes on someone and otherwise it will have to be auditions.. But Mel and Jamie just won't give up!!!

26th September 2007
We'll be featured on an Italian radioshow, an interview and a whole hour of music!!! I just heard it, so don't know any details, but I'll tell you as soon as I know!

25th September 2007
Linda still has problems with her voice.. no recording is possible at all! Everything's ready, I've been improvising because I usually play together with her singing - it is often my coordination. Means that if she sings, and it doesn't fit, I can do it all again :op No problem, we just wish her voice returns quickly! (I finished the album cover, which has turned out more beautiful and impressive than we thought!)
Love, Melanie

11th September 2007
The problems with the studio we had before (I didn't even write them here) are over and as soon as Linda has her voice back we can record the last bit and put some new songs on-line.
New song in the playlist: Neon Winds 4 from the album Neon Winds. We're thinking about making a Neon Winds 2, a second Neon Winds album..

5th August 2007
Just a little update: working hard on a new album, trying more different things and doing extra promotions for us tomorrow. We're having problems with Soundforge, which makes it tough to put our songs online, it should work with cubase, things aren't so easy.. What's the point of having your own studio when half the programs don't work? The studio never failed us before, but we're not too pleased about it! Changes will have to come, which means good software and hardware. We got all the material, just the wrong programs for proper recording. I'm working very hard to buy a new one! We're performing in Eindhoven again, in september. Really looking forward to that! Also working on the website again, artwork, and getting ready with my little Korg and guitar.

20th July 2007
Hello everyone!

Don't think nothing's happening around here.. We are currently working very hard on new songs, we recorded some demo's which will be put on-line soon. I'm trying to upload one demosong per 2 weeks (depends on rehearsal-time)
It's true, we haven't been playing as much as before, but that's because of my work and my personal situation. I'm working in shifts, and have had some long weeks. I have had two funerals in one month, so to be honest, I wasn't too keen on working hard for the band. But I miss music, and so I'm back to join the game! We promise to do more than our best for our believer, and hopefully soon our believers, we will work harder than we can, and we'll try everything within and beyond our reach. We won't stop, not ever!

All my best, Melanie, The Colour of Time

Howdy!

Just wanted to pop in and give you a heads up on Sommersby's October Competition!

If you haven't already heard, the competition (hot on the heels of his recent neck-in-neck September fiesta) will offer 20 parts for the winner and is open to all artists that have between $9999 and $0 in budget.

Please check the forum for updates on contest rules and regs….starts 25 October!

This is a great opportunity for you. Campaign with the believers to let them know you'd like to be nominated and encourage them to vote for you when the time comes.

Of course, if you'd like to, or you know someone who would like to, donate parts for the prizes in the Competition, just send (or have them send) Sommersby the details under a message marked “October Donation."

Hope you join in on the fun and GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!!!

These three give a nice change in music. The youngest member (Melanie aka Vlindertje) showed up by accident (?) while browsing through the site and since then:
The Color of Time is definitely on my wishlist.

Enjoy and be amazed.
