Reviews
Article from City Life magazine.
'It's always refreshing to find anyone starting out with ambitions beyond a fleeting 15 minutes as the latest big new thing. Mariachi indie rock is hardly an oversubscribed genre, and The Reverend's ambition and increasing mastery of Latin-tinged atmospherics marks them out as ones to watch...'

Review of last demo - The Seers & A House of Cards, May 2007
..."The Seers" is a neat, tight lipped anthem with plenty of action pack moments sitting somewhere between Television and The Stray Cats. Powerful stuff it is and "A House Of Cards" ( a reworking of an older live track) again uses that fantastic guitar sound and the trumpet also makes a welcome return. It's on the latter track that the themes are maybe a little more angled to 60's Sci-Fi – it easily makes for a double headed two track CD, meaning that The Reverend Coyote are back with songs more splendid than you'd dare imagine. -

Battle of the Bands - The Venue, Preston 13th May 2006 -
Unknown locally (although that won t be the case after this performance) the rock band Reverend Coyote were quite outstanding. They had a relaxed attitude, which sold them to an enthusiastic crowd from the opening bars of their jolly funk-rock sound. With a fixed glare and damn fine voice, their tambourine-flickering singer jumped around with a Puck-ish charm and from here Reverend Coyote added a sole trumpeter for a Merseybeat feel.

High Voltage Feb 20th 2006 -.walking in on this fantastically tight five-piece banging out a powerful uplifting tune full of classy ska-pop beats, strong lead vocals, delicious northern soul ooh ooh oohs and a sprinkling of gritty magpie folk-rock it's dexys that first come to mind. Music you have to dance to. And then they bring on a trumpeter and it all goes up another gear. an expertly handled harmonica joins the party and they're a mariachi version of the coral soundtracking Wigan casino.
'Sun's Up' is as bright as it's title and they never miss a beat, playing an early Monday night slot with all the spirit of a Saturday night party. This is music for the feet and the heart."

Review of first demo, Bingo Jesus/Boom Song -
This inspired and energised take on Spanish flavoured rock n roll finds The Rev. Coyote only briefly nodding to traditional styles before moving off in a far more fascinating direction. Theirs is a marvellous bonding between this and a chiming alt. guitar sound with dramatic and accomplished results - sounding like a kind of post rock Calexico. If these two damn fine songs are anything to go by, this Reverend should soon be looking at a full congregation.

Reverend Coyote are a fabulous proposition. With a twang and a whammy the band flit from Sci-Fi fifties head shakes to full on guitar rasps and when the trumpet is added the songs just jump into another pre-mod dimension. "Our bass player is leaving – it's his last gig.." – says the singer "We're not going anywhere though.." he informs us …"Quiet literally…" quips someone else in the band. It's an unfair self-judgement as Reverend Coyote are accomplished and entertaining as well as dedicated to their craft – tracks like "A House Of Cards" are peppered with brilliance and the harmonica fuelled Papillon are set on fore by the animated guitar playing. It's mighty fine stuff

Fresh exciting stuff - obviously benefit from the sort of energy bands get from gigging in Manchester. Would love to see these live. |
