About the record
The project consists in a series of 9 « travel books » (what can be heard and seen online is the first one). Each track is a new sonic and visual step of the journey. Painting landscapes… a new musical landscape every track, a new graphical landscape every track. You will also often be guided by some poems, notes or little stories written in the book. They help draw landscapes, they help raise feelings. They don’t tell you what to feel but how to feel.
So, how does it sound ? Let’s say that the music is between a movie soundtrack and pop songs : each tune is 4 to 5 minutes long instrumental music with an easily identified theme. Natural and artificial extra sounds come and go to create some particular ambiance. It is all aimed to rise images in listeners heads. It is all about sonic painting, a musical painting art form.
The theme of travel enables to deal with several different musical colors. Indeed, the travel can be real or imaginary, a movement of the body or a movement of the spirit. If a real landscape is made out of hills, mountains and rivers, it can also be a landscape of the inside made out of feelings and emotions. The travel becomes an initiatory adventure. A search of yourself. A spiritual path. Thus, the conceptual theme of travel enables a free composing form and free ways for the music to evolve in the future.
The packaging
About the graphic issue, the aim is to lead the reader/listener into the heart of travel in an imaginary world, a wonderland. The CD jacket is a map. In fact, a piece of a map out of 9. As you may guess, there will be 9 albums to achieve the travel. On each map, a broken line indicates the traveller’s way. Each step is a song. You can see some examples on the website.
All the audio CD in free downloading (.wav quality) here : http://travellingman.free.fr. This web address is just a stocking area but I will make a real website as soon as I can. You can find all the visual materials too. The goal of this stocking area is to enable each person to make his own CD identical to the 30 CDs made by myself.

Le disque
Le projet consiste en une série de 9 "carnets de voyages" (la musique mise en ligne ainsi que le visuel concerne le premier carnet). Un carnet de voyage se compose d'un certain nombre d'étapes qui sont autant de morceaux de musique différents. Chaque étape est l'occasion d'un nouveau paysage, à la fois musical (1 plage du CD), graphique (1 page du livret) et souvent textuel (une note, un poème ou un récit du carnet).
L'ambiance musicale se veut entre la musique de film et la chanson pop : des morceaux de 4 ou 5 mn avec un thème musical facile à identifier mais le tout instrumental et illustré par des sons d'ambiances : le but est de faire naître des images dans la tête de l'auditeur, il s'agit de peinture sonore.
Le thème du voyage permet d'aborder de nombreuses couleurs sonores différentes. Car le voyage peut-être réel ou bien imaginaire, un déplacement du corps ou bien de l'esprit. Et si un paysage peut être fait de vallées, de montagnes et de rivières, il peut également se révéler être un paysage intérieur, fait de sentiments et d'émotions. Le voyage devient alors un voyage intérieur, une sorte d'aventure initiatique à la recherche de soi-même et, pourquoi pas, un chemin spirituel. Bref, cela laisse la composition très libre et offre un champ ouvert pour des évolutions futures de la musique.
le packaging
Au niveau graphique, l'intention est de transporter le lecteur-auditeur au coeur d'un voyage dans un monde imaginaire, à la limite du merveilleux. La pochette du CD se déplie afin de former une portion de carte. Une fois les 9 disques achevés, l'assemblage des 9 cartes formera une grande carte. Un trait en pointillé indique le parcourt du voyageur, chaque étape portant le nom d'un des titres du CD. Vous trouverez un certain nombre d'exemple des visuels dans les images jointes à ce site.
L'ensemble du CD audio est téléchargeable en .wav sur le site http://travellingman.free.fr. Cette adresse n'est pour l'instant qu'un espace de stockage, je compte m'occuper de son aspect courant mars. Vous y trouverez également l'ensemble des visuels. Le but est de donner la possibilité à chacun de se fabriquer son propre CD identique aux 30 CD fabriqués initialement.

Howdy!
Just wanted to pop in and give you a heads up on Sommersby's October Competition!
If you haven't already heard, the competition (hot on the heels of his recent neck-in-neck September fiesta) will offer 20 parts for the winner and is open to all artists that have between $9999 and $0 in budget.
