Second Person’s Elements
On August 9 at 8PM CET, all Believers in Second Person are invited to attend an exclusive playback of ‘The Elements’, the official SellaBand CD from Second Person. The band will also be present for a chat session and the first video from the album (that will also be included on the Limited Edition CD) will be premiered as well. At 8.45 PM there will be an ‘open playback session’ of the album, followed at 9.30 PM with the opening of the Second Person Store.
The tracklisting of ‘The Elements’ is as follows:
Wood
Fire
Earth
Metal
Water

Also, the limited edition will feature a wealth of extra content, such as a documentary and a live registration of Second Person’s London Calling performance at Gibson Guitar Studios. Four more videos will be shot in the coming weeks and months, to accompany the songs on ‘The Elements’, and all Second Person Believers will receive these videos for free as soon as they are out!
The exlusive picture you see here is the front cover of the album.
SellaBration ’07 Update
Extra tickets available
With a full promotional page in this week’s Nieuwe Revu Magazine, we will officially kick off the campaign for SellaBration ’07. Our one year anniversary at Amsterdam’s famous Paradiso venue is to be held on August 16. A poster campaign in the Dutch capital, announcing the concert will also launch this week.
As announced earlier, performing for you will be Daniel Ward-Murphy, Mandyleigh, Lily, Clémence, Cubworld, Second Person and Nemesea. Doors will be open at 19:00 hours and the last band should be off stage around 23:30. After which everybody is invited to stay at the venue to dance the night away with a cool DJ set or chat some more upstairs at the small room of Paradiso.
Webcast
We are happy to announce that, just like our New Year’s Party in January, SellaBration ’07 will be filmed and recorded by Fabchannel and a webcast of the event will go out live on the night itself. We are also looking at the possibility to sell selected video downloads of the performances shortly after the event.
Extra free tickets
All 500 Believers tickets have been given away, but we have some good news. Out of the 500 tickets we’re giving away to sponsors and for competition, another 100 tickets have become available for artists and believers on SellaBand. If you haven’t yet been able to get your hands on a (pair of) ticket(s) for free, please send an e-mail to ticket@sellaband.com with your request.
SellaBration Movie
We have already received a healthy number of funny, hilarious, serious and sincere birthday wishes. Great to hear you all speak in Finnish, Portugese, Russian and Australian (yes, we do think that's a language by itself!) and you all look good too! But, we want more! More birthday wishes, which will be shown live on a big screen at Paradiso on the 16th. So please, record something nice, go to your own profile page and use the red tab that says: Upload your SellaBration Movie. We are looking forward to your contributions!
Recording Artists Update
SellaBand’s roster now includes no less than seven different artists. And while we it be in the middle of Summer (at least on the Northern Hemisphere), there is still lots of activity going on. Here’s a quick overview:

Nemesea are currently rehearsing the material for their headlining slot at Amsterdam’s Paradiso venue on August 16. The band are getting great reviews for their ‘In Control’ album, like this one at fok.nl, for example (it’s in Dutch, but the four out of five stars is pretty easy to understand). The band are looking to go on the road in the fall in support of their SellaBand album.

Cubworld has confirmed the line-up of his new live-band. He will be bringing his new musicians to the Netherlands for their live-debut at SellaBration ’07 and then hopes to do more live dates with them later this year. He has just returned from Hawaii where he was actively promoting his SellaBand album, as well as writing new material.

Second Person’s album is finished and all the parts will be delivered to the factory this week. ‘The Elements’ will be premiered on SellaBand on Thursday August 9 during an exclusive listening session for their Believers. More details of this event will follow shortly (see elsewhere in this Tribune). Also, the band will premiere the videos of their songs at SellaBration ’07 on August 16 in Amsterdam.

Clémence is enjoying a short holiday break and is recovering from a throat infection. This has caused a short delay for her album, but producer Haydn Bendall is still confident that all the vocals will be recorded on tape before the end of August. We hope to be able to give you a confirmed tracklisting in the next couple of weeks.

Lily has narrowed the number of songs she wants to choose from from 40 to 20. She hopes to record 10 or 12 tracks and will start recording after her visit to the Netherlands in August. Lovely Lily is currently enjoying a holiday, somewhere in Latin America (we have the details but will not disclose them for security reasons…)

Maitreya is hard at work in New York. Together with Kevin and Kiyanu from Brooklyn Noise he is laying down the basic tracks for his 10 song SellaBand album. We are currently working very hard to get clearance for a number of samples Maitreya needs for his songs.

Mandyleigh and her husband Gary are about to get on a plane to the Netherlands for the Almelo Meets Nashville Show, followed by an appearance at SellaBration ’07. Whilst in the Netherlands she will have a number of meetings (including one with the SellaBand Team) and will then make her final decision on how to proceed with recording her SellaBand album.
Q + A
Julia Marcell
One month ago nobody on SellaBand knew who she was. She has only been with us for four weeks, but has nestled herself on Page 1 of the Artist Search and is on her way to $20,000 in budget. Ascending even faster than Nemesea or Clémence, there could only be one Q + A contender for the first Tribune of the new season. Ladies and gentlemen, we give you… Julia Marcell!
Who is Julia Marcell?
“A restless soul who seeks ways of expression. I'm obsessed with music and creating and I live for it.”What made you join SellaBand?
“This is actually quite a story to tell. A few months ago my friend told me about a site where people buy shares in your future CD and when you have enough money you record the CD and sell it, and they make profit of it. I thought "wow! what an awesome idea!", too bad my friend didn't remember the site's name. Few weeks later I was surfing the net and I came across a website of similar rules. I thought ‘hey, could it be the website my friend was telling me about?’ So I browsed it for a while, but was put off by it somehow - was it the design, the complete rules or the acts who signed up, I don't really know. I forgot about it easily. And then, about a month ago I followed a mysterious link of a band that was until then unknown to me, called Second Person - this wasn't the link to their Myspace page, nor was it to their official website – ‘this has got to be something good’ I thought ‘cause else why would they promote it?’. It was their SellaBand page and from the first moment I saw the website, I knew I had to be on it. It was like a gut feeling, I have never been so sure of something in my whole life. Of course before I joined I've read carefully everything there was to read on the website, terms and conditions, f.a.q., the official forum, the unofficial forum, the blogs around it, everything. And then I joined to see a few dollars being invested in me already from the first moment. I was hooked!”Has your stellar rise to page 1 on SellaBand surprised you?
“I think to say ‘surprised’ is not enough - it shocked me.”
Did/do you use any special tactics to attract new Believers?
“I sent many emails to my friends and fans and promoted my SellaBand profile on my Myspace and website, but that's about it. It all went so quickly that I didn't even have the time to come up with a good strategy.”What can people expect from you once you've raised the full $50,000?
“An album of 10 songs arranged for acoustic instruments and bound by a coherent vision. The arrangements are going be ‘bigger’ this time, with more instruments and the songs will be new. And you're gonna love the album cover. :)”What's the musical climate like in Poland?
“Dualistic I would say. On one hand we have a certain group of popular artists who dominate all media - TV, radio, big community websites. On the other hand we have lots of very talented young, independent artists with no means to show themselves to the public. It's like a true music underground - no big TV program will ever show you, no big radio station will play your music, but you live to become proud of it, because what we see on TV is never considered art. So we have independent websites, festivals, concert venues, magazines, we have our own independent celebrities, it works
great. With one difference that people who don't make an effort to find us, won't find us and will get the impression from the TV shows that there's absolutely no quality music made in Poland. When, in fact, there's a lot more than one could imagine.”
Are there any other SellaBand artists you particularly like?
“Yes, a lot in fact. My absolute favourites include Bim (they are meant to sing together), Liset Alea (she put a spell on me with her "Moonlight" song), Tangarine (tradition of folk and blues music with a modern vibe), Lola Perrin (magical piano playing), Monsieur Cannibale (melancholic and kind of fin de siècle in spirit) and just a few days ago I discovered Kane Sole who's emotional vocals I really love. And of course Angie Arsenault – some people say we sound similar, but I think that's not really true, she's got a whole musical world on her own that is unique and pretty different from what I do. I love lots of other artists, but those I just mentioned, I visit and listen to most often.”Why should people Believe in Julia Marcell?
“I think people should have the right to justice and should be paid good money for their hard work. But should they Believe in Julia Marcell? I can only try to convince them to. Maybe I'll try by saying that I live for music and I work hard to grow as a musician and always stay true to myself while seeking different forms of expression. But in the end, it's all people's decision.”
Cool offer from Amiestreet.com for SellaBand Believers

We at SellaBand love Amiestreet, because they - just like us at SellaBand - look at the music industry in a different way. Amiestreet is a downloadportal, but it's not your average downloadportal. No, Amiestreet is dedicated to music discovery and works with dynamic pricing of songs - all songs start free and rise in price the more they are purchased. This way you're stimulated to discover new artists without emptying your wallet. And when you recommend the songs to your friends you get rewarded with extra download credits.
So Amiestreet is great, but they love SellaBand too! To show this, they have a nice offer for all you SellaBand Believers. When you sign up to Amiestreet and use the promo code "sellaband' they'll give you $1,00 and 5 RECs on your account. With the $1,- you can download loads of new tracks, or just one very popular track. And with the 5 RECs you can start recommending songs to earn extra credits.

Regular CD’s For Sale
The so called ‘regular’ versions of the Nemesea and Cubworld albums are now on sale. Starting today, both artists and their Believers can start selling these albums for $10,00 each. These regular editions are not numbered and have no extra content, but they are neatly packaged in jewel case boxes and all feature extensive artwork, including song lyrics. In the coming weeks and months we will announce online partnerships and offline distribution deals so the albums will be for sale on other platforms and stores as well.Forum Blues
We are happy to see that so many of you have become active and vocal on the Forum. Most members of the SellaBand staff have also become involved in several discussions and will, if time permits, continue to do so. One thing that has become very clear is that people want to be involved and that they want to be made aware of our plans and ideas in an early stage. Roger that, message understood, etcetera. We are definitely aware that we are all in this together and will be as open as we can possibly be. Both on the Forum and in these columns, the so called SellaBand Tribune. We must add though that the Forum is meant as a feature for our community and should not keep us from our day jobs. So, if you really want to make sure that a concern or issue you may have gets a personal answer from our HQ, please send your questions and remarks to info@sellaband.com. Rest assured, the weekly update will contain more news and plans in the near future, and new threads will be started to get you involved and ask your opinion!New Flabber M Poll
Our friends at Dutch music website www.flabberm.nl started a new SellaBand poll last Tuesday. For this poll they've chosen the 5 artists that formed the Top 5 on the Weekly Chart on July 17th:
Julia Marcell
Solidtube
Lorraine Jones
Bim
Jonatan Cerrada Moreno.
The winner of the poll gets 25 parts and an article on Flabberm. Until August 21st you can vote for your favorite; go to www.flabberm.nl, you'll find the poll on the left. Click on your favorite artist, and click 'Stem' (vote)
Technical improvements
They say the devil is in the detail, so our programming team tried to focus on some of the smaller things to make SellaBand a better place for you. We’ve added Believer pictures on the Artist profile pages. We feel showing the faces of our community makes SellaBand more lively and interactive. Also you can now follow the last parts sold, by the second! Soon you will be able to click on see all, which will give you the complete list in chronological order. We got some feedback from you about getting a little squared eyed from the rather small edit boxes so we’ve increased their size for you. We’ve added see all functions so scrollers can scroll instead of clicking through the artists on believer pages. The last feature we’ve added this Monday was the expand function under all boxes that contain more text than the box can show. Click on it and the box will open up for your reading pleasure.
For Nemesea and Cubworld Believers, aka SellaBand shop owners, we have made it clear on a real time basis how much money they are making from their parts. Today we will start selling the regular editions of their albums. You will notice this in the SellaBand store and hopefully shop owners will notice this in their income. Please remember that Believers can earn 1 dollar per regular CD sold through their page. This week we will also show Believers without a shop how much money they can make once their artists have released their album. So stay tuned!
Other functionalities coming up soon: Tags, widgets, Shop owners’ designs, your favorite artist in the spot light on your profile page, playlists, Believer search, separate tab on the forum for gigs, a gig planner and many more functionalities!
