Vegas Dragons:

 Very Heavy, very Proud!

Brian Taylor is coming to NL in June!

Reaching $50,000 on SellaBand was a dream come true for him and now he is ready to share his brand new recordings with the rest of the world. Vegas Dragons are about to release their SellaBand album ‘Lovingly Cruel’ and, in related news, band leader Brian Taylor is about to pack his bags once more and is ready to travel to Europe...

By Brian Taylor

It is with the greatest joy that I can announce that I will be flying over to Amsterdam from Sydney, Australia to be at the world premiere listening party for the new Vegas Dragons CD "Lovingly Cruel" which will take place at Sellaband's brand new office in early June!
While I am there I will be autographing and hand numbering all 5,000 CDs. (That should be fun!!!) I will also be doing promotional activites like press interviews and posting many of my personal copies to European magazines and radio stations so that they can play our CD (and how about a bit of vacuum cleaning in the new office? -Ed.).
If you are in Amsterdam during the first week of June and you would like to attend the listening party, it would be my sincere pleasure to meet you and thank you in person. If you are a Believer in Vegas Dragons I would like to give you your CDs in person. If you are not a Believer maybe I can sell you an autographed copy!
The journey to $50k, the recording process and the mission to make the best CD we can has been one of the most fantastic periods of my life. We have worked hard to create an 11 track CD (with three bonus tracks for our Believers on the limited edition CD) that we are very proud of. We hope that you will be happy too.
While the entire band can not make it this time, we all can't wait to come to Europe and play a string of European shows when the money has been raised on our second Sellaband account: www.sellaband.com/vegasdragonslive

Thank you so much for Believing in Vegas Dragons and I hope to see you in Amsterdam during the first week of June! Vegas Dragons love for Sellaband and our friends here is for life and we can assure you the best is yet to come! Thank you all for letting dreams come true!

Daniel Ward-Murphy:

The Journey so far

He has certainly taken his time to reach his goal, but now that he’s passed the hurdle, Daniel Ward-Murphy will use time to his advantage. He will be recording his SellaBand album with none other than Tony Platt and preparations are well under way. In his own words, Daniel tells you how he has experienced the ride on SellaBand so far.

By Daniel Ward-Murphy

"The journey to 50k was great but strange!  As someone who has bought parts in other artists I know it is not a decision taken lightly, so I appreciated every single part and every single new believer – I never lost sight of that.  It really was great to see a steady flow of new people who were listening to my music.  There were frustrating times as well with momentum swinging backwards and forwards and quite often it having nothing to do with the music, but I just stayed focused on my goal, which was the same as it was years ago – to get the chance to make an album with a great producer and then let my music do the talking.  It is frustrating that it has taken so long but I have that chance now, and in the meantime I have managed to write a lot more songs, meet my band and communicate with a lot of great music lovers along the way.  You will always get those who try and knock you down, those who don’t treat you with much respect, but the people I have (at least virtually!) met along the way have been the main, overwhelming positive aspect of the whole experience."

"I was lucky as I was able to be around a computer during the final hours.  I sat and watched the parts come in and then bang, a big believer who I had never spoken to invested an incredible amount of money in me.  There is no way I could have targeted that and I didn’t I expected it, but it was great to get there.  I appreciate what the believers have done for me and would like to make them all happy at the end of the day.  There was no over-reaction from me though, I didn’t sink to my knees in the middle of a field and scream to the skies as rain poured down around me (hehe) as I see it as phase one complete.  Including the many years since I first stepped on a stage, it has been a tough, long journey to get to this point but I will be working hard to progress from here, as I haven’t accomplished much yet.  When you hit that $50,000 it is a great feeling - great to know that people have believed in you enough and great for me to know that such a large number of believers have given you the thumbs up.  With the journey taking a while, I felt a big sense of relief, as having the opportunity to make the album means you feel back in control of your destiny a bit."

"It’s all about the album.  I have come up with my shortlist of songs to consider recording and I am now putting together a schedule for intensive rehearsals and then the recording itself.  My producer Tony Platt will attend the first main rehearsal and we will all then decide what songs to record.  After that a few sections will be written/re-written and possibly some song structure changes made, then on to intensive rehearsals and beyond.  I owe it to my believers to not only to take care of the artistic side of things but to also do everything I can to promote what comes out.  This doesn’t magically come together overnight, so whilst my drummer has been in the US and my violinist fulfilled a few musical commitments, I have not only been working on the newest song on the album shortlist, but been working with those around me to make sure internet promotion, press/television coverage, album artwork creative, effective writing and distribution of press releases, achieving radio airplay and acquiring a live booking agent are all elements that we will have given the best chance of coming together.  Any failure on my part will not be for the lack of planning or effort.  I know the album in terms of songwriting, performances, production and marketability will be competitive, and we are just getting everything else as far along as possible, in order to be able to compete with other new acts out there.  The music is always at the core for me, so it goes without saying I am incredibly excited and ready to record this album.  This is my bit, this is what I think I am best at, and I look forward to recording the songs in the studio and then performing them on stage.  I believe in communication and letting people see as much of the process as possible (if they choose to) so I will be in touch through Sellaband, through my official site www.danielwm.com, through Facebook/MySpace/Hyves/Bebo/iLike etc – however current believers and future fans want to be communicated to.  So look out for all the updates, interviews, video footage and news along the way!  I thank all of those who bought a part in me for getting me to this stage and I will try my utmost to exceed your expectations.  At the same time I would like to acknowledge all of the other artists striving to get to this point and wish them all the success in the world."

Lo Mass Republic

A classic modern rock band from L.A. that shows its influences well but still sounds totally fresh. Strong vocals and some killer guitar playing on three tracks from their well produced album “Poisoned Hear Machines”. Currently writing what should be the new songs for their SellaBand album, but that’s up to you!

Proceed with caution - there’s only one song on Susie’s page and no updates since the day after she arrived. But what a song and what a voice - “No Answer” is a mesmerizing piece of work with a beautiful descending chorus that will hook you after only one listen.

Q + A

Electric Eel Shock

Never in our -relatively short- history have we witnessed this kind of entrance before: $20,000 in a mere ten days. Japanese indie rock gods Electric Eel Shock have joined SellaBand and are currently the talk of the town. So, without further ado, we let guitarist/vocalist Aki and bass player Kazuto answer our most urgent questions...

For those who don't know: who are Electric Eel Shock?
"Electric Eel Shock are rock & roll, punk, garage metal band, based on classic heavy metal. But we are not only old school, we have a lot of new things... We are of course from Japan but we take many influences from western music and culture. We all like a lot of different band: Aki (guitar and vocal) worships at the altar of early Black Sabbath. Kazuto (bass) is the Ramones and Gian (drums) likes Jazz, Funk and Soul! We have been touring in USA, Europe and rest of the world since 2002 so this has really help shape our very own sound. We always try to be very unique original band and we always give lots of energy and fun!"

Tell us a bit about your Samurai Club, please?
"Ah the Samurai are 100 crazy guys recruited by drunken Bob Slayer in case he ever need a spare kidney. I think you have all heard from Bob Slayer - he is EES Shogun and runs our Sellaband profile – I am glad he let us speak here! All Samurai paid £100 to get guest list to EES gigs for life – but this is not their life it is Bob Slayers life so they have to keep him alive! But he not only a mad drunkard because all money raised by Samurai was really helpful to us when record Beat Me album. Sellaband is our Samurai 2.0 and takes this to a whole community - I think Bob has a plan to make all believers with over 10 parts into Ninja so maybe they can give him their liver?!"

What made you join SellaBand?
"In 2002 we sold all our possessions and became full time musician and tour all over the world. Since then we have released 3 albums through different labels some big and some small, some good some bad. But all the time, we have a frustrated for the lacking of understanding in the traditional music industry. The only people who really understand EES fully are our fans all over the world, that is our motivate to keep on touring. and so we know that Sellaband is exaclty what we need finally!! Long live Sellaband and long live EES!"

Has the fast rise to Page 1 of our Artist Searched surprised you?
"Yes ! i surprised everyday!! amazing!! Thank you everyone! We look forward to meeting you all!! Please come to our gigs and say hello."

If things continue to go that quick for you on SellaBand, are you ready for things to come?
"Electric Eel Shock are always ready for anything and everything – dealing with Bob Slayer on a daily basis is good training for this. We will maybe get Ozzy on guest vocals – can you sort that? Aki would be very happy!"

What kind of album would you like to make with SellaBand?
"It should be best album for us and for SellaBand, and of couse for EES fans. We already have a lot of ideas to make an album. When we worked with great producer Attie Bauw last album he gave us so much inspiration for writing and we have had such a good time all over the world. We will make our fans and believers the Sellaband rock & roll party album!"

You guys are real road warriors, aren't you?
"You mean we tour a lot? Yes we do. We already have been over 30 countries, US, Canada, Europe, East Euro, Scandinavia, Australia, Hong Kong, SouthKorea etc...We hope to go to South America and South Africa and we just got a request to do a gig in Philippines. We can drive almost every country without map! And we know cheaper supermarkets, nice pubs, secret fishing spots etc. We are proud we have a lot of great bands and people that we have friendship with all over the world!"

Will you still be touring in the coming months?
"We are in Holland now for some festivals. And then we are going to tour in Japan. We'll be back Europe end of May to have The Presidents of the United States of America support tour. And more festivals in June and July – Bob Slayer says that maybe we should maybe play a gig in Europe on August 15th is this a special date? We have been all over the world so much in the last few years that we have maybe neglected our home country a little – we want to tour in Japan more in 2009."

Do you expect more bands with a similar track record as EES will join SellaBand in the near future?
"You know we love good music, great band. We don't care about category of music, we just love good music and it seem that Sellaband people are very much same. I think this makes it a very good place for any band. When other bands take the time to weigh up Sellaband against a most traditional deals than I think a lot more good bands will join. I think if Sellaband keeps going and looks after the bands that work hardest then slowly people will see that this has so much potential. And then we can hold a big SellaBand Festival?!"

Why should people Believe in Electric Eel Shock?
"Because we love music, we believe in music. It is our living and so we must also make it our business but I never want to feel like this is a job that I don't want to do – I am happy every day that we can play gigs and record songs. We also have a very good and strong team who promote releases and do a good marketing job for us, we hope that working with Sellaband we can sell more and more records. "You are all Electric Eel Shock guys!"

Angie Arsenault:

“The Greatest roller coaster ride of my life.”

Less than 24 hours after Daniel Ward-Murphy, we welcomed another SellaBand Recording Artist. We will now have the privilige to work with a Canadian artist for the first time. Angie Arsenault is #21 to reach $50,000 on SellaBand, but her story is unique, just like the 20 other tales that have been told before her...

By Angie Arsenault

“May 1st, 2008; A day I shall remember for a long time.  It was the morning my husband came to wake me up (only because he knew he had good reason to do so!) to announce the big news: “You did it Angie!” he said.... “You got the 50K!!”.

Still half asleep, I was admittedly confused.  The night before, I had reached the 44K mark so I couldn’t believe that I had slept through the final moments in the countdown.  “Aaghh!! I missed it??”.  Of course, my disappointment did not last long as I sprung out of bed to throw my arms around Jocelyn (husband and manager).  “We did it my luv!!!”.

Not long after, I was chatting away with believers in my bath robe with many butterfly feelings in my stomach.  It was so great to be able to talk back and forth with some of the people who have been so supportive of me and my music and share in the excitement of starting a brand new journey on Sellaband ; the recording of my debut album.  Emotions were all over the place, especially when I excused myself from the chat room to take a very important call; it was my mom, calling from afar to congratulate me and express how proud she was.  She is such a softy my mom and she had me crying too .  Believers were writing down “hello to mom!” and sounded happy to experience this moment with me.

These last few months for me on Sellaband have been the greatest roller coaster ride of my life and the timing of my 50K coincided on a day that I was performing with my band here in Montreal.  It was perfect ...and what a night!  The crowd was thrilled about my big news and I felt such a positive vibe in this hall filled with believers including one of my top supporters Stephen Shen (a real sweetheart), who had travelled all the way from Texas!  It was such a joy for me to perform my music on this big day which seemed so... magical.  Of course, I had to let out some of the accumulated adrenaline.. . so the celebrations continued after the show with some dancing, delicious festive drinks and then we topped it all off with some artery clogging “poutine” at 3:00 in the morning; Montreal style!  I’m still paying for it all, but it was so worth it!!! lol

After all the wonderful messages of congratulations, there is one that rings in my head that read something like “Great job Angie.  You deserve it... now get to work!” lol   Yes, there is a great amount of work that lies ahead of me now, but it will be a work of passion and I have been preparing for this for quite a while now.  Having already been in contact with Adam Sieff, SellaBand’s global director or A&R, the ball is rolling now getting things in place to begin the recording process.   He has been very supportive of my ideas, showing confidence in my abilities (which is so reassuring), giving great advice and helping to make sure we get the most out of the Sellaband budget and make a great album.  I will be recording here, in Montreal, with my talented and trusted musicians.

I will be keeping updates on the recording process in the blog section of my profile along with details about my first time visit to Europe which will take place in September of this year.  I plan to perform a few shows and, hopefully, get to meet some more of my believers.   So (maybe) see you then! ;-)”

Snappy and refreshing four piece indie poppers who sound just like a good snappy and refreshing four piece band of indie poppers should. With excellent songs and plenty of live gigs coming up, they might just be the next big thing in snappy and refreshing four piece etc, etc.......

Looks like The Spice Girls loss is SellaBand’s gain. Confident, sassy and classy pop produced by the excellent Greg Haver. Just remember Lianne, the cream and the crap rise to the top, but not always in that order!
