The band came over to the UK recently and met with producer Greg Haver (Manic Street Preachers, Lost Prophets) and are now delighted to announce that they will be working with him on their SellaBand album. Plans are underway for the band to start recording in October at Modern World Studios in England, with the results expected for release in early 2009. Q + A
Highway 101
Back in 1988 they enjoyed major chart success and saw their status confirmed with a number of Grammy nominations, the US’s most prestigious music award. Twenty years onwards, Highway 101 are back in business and, more importantly, they want to be in business with you, the Believers of SellaBand. Drummer Cactus Moser tells the story...
Who are Highway 101?
The band has a very rich history. What would you consider to be the highlights of your career, so far?
What made you sign up with SellaBand?

So far our existing community has jumped on board in a very generous way. Are you counting on your own, existing fan base to join the ranks of Believers as well?
Highway 101 seems to be a real touring band. How many live-gigs do you play every year, on average?
Did you have some time already to consider what kind of album you would like to make with SellaBand?

What kind of ambitions does a band still have who has 'seen it all and done it all’?
Why should people believe in Highway 101?
Weekly Update
Hold Your Breath...
It's the heart of Summer, at least in Europe it is. Your friends at SellaBand however, are hard at work to make August 15 an unforgettable day. Preparations for both SellaBration '08 and SellaBand Seminar (see elsewhere this Tribune) are in full swing. We will kick off the Seminar with a roll out of our strategy for Year Three in the life of SellaBand. This will include unveiling the new website, as well as new partnerships and business plans. Therefore we will be holding off all major announcements until August 15. In other words, these Summer editions of the Tribune will be about the music first and foremost. By the way, after today we will only have two more SellaBand Tribunes to go: August 5 and August 12. And what about August 19, we can hear you think. Just wait and see, but something new is hiding around the corner...SellaBand in the News
SellaBand featured in an excellent article earlier this month on the US website wired.com, where Eliot Van Buskirk listed the top ten hottest music sites. The judging criteria was based not only on what the sites do for music fans, but also on their potential to impact the future development of the music industry. SellaBand got a favorable mention in the top ten and is quoted as the pioneer of fan investment in music. Interestingly, sites such as MySpace and Pandora didn't make the top ten but they got honorable mentions. Click here to read the full article. The article then went on to be picked out in the English newspaper, The Guardian. Click here to read the article .
Following Electric Eel Shock reaching the US$50,000, there was a great article on the band in The Japan Times. To view the article, click here . Mark Maclaine from Second Person was also quoted in the article and it’s definitely worth checking out.
Also, this month's Classic Rock Magazine covered EES. In the past rock magazines have been a little sceptical of SellaBand, as some have felt the concept lacked credibility for this particular genre of music but that seems to be changing now!
Also in the news: Maitreya
Currently making waves in his native New Zealand is SellaBand Recording Artist Maitreya. His song WAITAHA is doing well on the radio and he's currently touring and doing promotion. This has resulted in a major news feature that was published today on 3 News NZ, a prestigious news site. Maitreya is featured in an article but there is also a brand new video interview that is featured prominently on the site. You can find the news item here and the video item here.
Gisel Is Doing Great
No Chart Analysis this week but the current chart reign of Argentina's Gisel de Marco should not go unnoticed. Still in Europe, playing gigs in various countries, Gisel enjoys another week at #1 of the Weekly Chart. Now managed by none other than SellaBand Believer Phil Sommersby, Gisel has passed the 25K mark (50%) and has her Amazon-moment™ on the horizon. Mind you, right now there are no less than six 'solo female acts' on Page 1 of our Artist Search, all very much alive and kicking...
Peatnik's at it Again.
Pete Strobl, aka Peatnik, is a man of many talents. Bassplayer, producer, engineer... But he is also an excellent writer. In the past we have already mentioned some of his blogs, but this month, he has been very productive. And outspoken as usual. If, 8 years down the line, we would want to publish a book about the first 10 years of SellaBand, he would be the man for the job. Read here what he has to say about the First two years of SellaBand and, equally compelling, his vision on the 80/20 rule and where SellaBand fits in.
