 Vegas Dragons live 50K plan

Aim: To raise $50,000 to take Vegas Dragons : Brian Taylor (vocals), Phil Tweed (keys, backing vocals), Jeremy Barnes (guitar), Pete Drummond (drums) and Joe Manton (bass) to Europe and play gigs there and to have Tiffany Gow flown over as one of our support artists. All the Vegas Dragons gigs will be recorded and the best quality songs will be used for a Sellaband release. It will comprise of 2 parts:

1.Vegas Dragons "Live in Europe" CD: This will be available in a limited edition format of 5000 copies and a regular CD. It will contain live versions of Vegas Dragons songs and some new studio Vegas Dragons songs that will be especially written for the CD. A Believer who buys one part will be entitled to the CD.

2.Vegas Dragons DVD:   It will contain live Australian footage, European footage, recording of the Sellaband studio CD, all the Vegas Dragons filmclips as at 2009 and many bonus extras.

Where will we play? The big gig will take place in Amsterdam at the Paradiso. There will hopefully be a number of smaller club gigs in The Netherlands, UK, Germany and Austria. We will play anywhere that there is demand and a reasonable return can be made.

When will the tour take place? Obviously this depends on when the money is raised. It is hoped that we can come over and play in the summer of 2009. By that time Vegas Dragons should have a number of filmclips from the new CD and hopefully a larger European following to perform in front of. We should also have a good range of merchandise to sell on the tour. Tiffany Gow should also have raised her $50,000 and have her Sellaband CD will be available for sale at the gigs to help her Believers. Obviously, it will be up to the Believers in the end if they want this project to take place. Vegas Dragons will be putting a large portion of our revenue earned on Sellaband into this account to build it up as fast as possible. We really would like to play to our loyal Believers.

What do you get out of it? For your $10 you will get the Vegas Dragons LIVE limited editon CD. If you buy two parts you will get the CD and the DVD. You will also get money from Sellaband from advertising revenue, sale of BOTH products - CD and DVD.

If you are able to attend the gigs in Europe you will be allowed ONE ticket per part to any gig in Europe that suits you. If you are in Amsterdam you will be invited to our big farewell afterparty that will take place after the gig at the Paradiso. (TWO tickets per Believer to the after party). We are hoping that Heineken or another fine company will sponsor the party.

Tiffany Gow: Money from the budget will be used for a return ticket for Tiffany Gow and for transfers to and from the gigs. It will not pay for any expenses of the members of her band or additional expenses of Tiffany. Tiffany has agreed to do the gigs in Europe with us for free in return for the plane ticket. (Brian from Vegas Dragons will also be doing all the gigs for free.) She will be free to make money from her own merchandise stand at the gigs and keep it for herself. She will be free to record her gigs (seperate of Vegas Dragons) and keep all rights to the footage for herself. All we have asked is that we are able to use her performances as part of Vegas Dragons in our CD and DVD. She has accepted this.

Side projects: Phil Tweed will be doing side projects in Europe and it is likely that  Jeremy Barnes will be doing clinics as he has a big European following who love his guitar playing. The Vegas Dragons LIVE budget will NOT cover any of the expenses of running these side projects and will have no right to the footage.

Expenses:  A tour from Australia to Europe is very expensive. Plane fares, accomodation, transfers and many other items are going to make it very unlikely to make it a profitable tour. However the exposure of playing in Europe and doing a lot of press promotion while there will help build more interest in our first Vegas Dragons Sellaband CD, which will hopefully lead to more CD sales of Believer's Vegas Dragons limited edition CDs, bring more Believers to Sellaband and give the new live CD a bigger audience. Sellaband has said that they will help wherever they can in getting us discounts on recording equiptment and venues. This is much appreciated. We will be budgeting where possible. We are hoping that some Believers let us sleep on their lounges in their houses so we can save money on hotels. Only money that really needs to be spent will be used.

Revenue earned: We are hoping to earn extra money on the tour from sale of Vegas Dragons merchandise, ticket sales and sponsorship of the tour. All this money will go back into the budget to help cover the many expenses listed above and to record the CD. There will be FULL DISCLOSURE of how the monies are expected to be spent AND an actual account sheet showing how the budget was spent, so those wishing to buy Parts in Vegas Dragons Live can have 100% proof that we did the right thing.
There will also be an actual account sheet as to how the money from Vegas Dragons #1 was spent, once the CD is available too.
We would also like to have someone from Sellaband on board to handle ALL money we get from ticketing, merchandise and other revenue streams - so no one can say that we did the wrong thing.
We consider this VERY SERIOUS and want to give our Believers real value for money.

It was the week in which two so called 50K artists returned for a second round of funding, even before their first contractual obligation has been fulfilled. Two more Recording Artists have reached out to us and requested to know where we stand on this, as well as a number of Believers. The hefty debates that ensued on the Forum suggest that some guidance or official statement from us would be appreciated. Well, here goes: First of all we are humbled and thrilled by the fact that artists are showing their faith and commitment by wanting to come back for a second round. Everyone who has raised the full 50K is free to come back for a second round, as long as they respect the Terms & Conditions, which clearly indicate a commitment of a minimum of three songs on the future recorded CD, and no other contractual obligations to other publishing companies and/or record labels. In the not so distant future SellaBand hopes to launch the right platform for Recording Artists to raise funds for their next official album, as well as cater for their needs to stay visible during and after their recording process. Until then artists are free to come back for a second round, just like Believers have the right to decide whether they want to support this or not. Case closed, as far as we are concerned…

This is the letter I sent to Sellaband HQ before setting up this account:

I have beaten to the punch by Francis who began a new account today but I would like to get your thoughts on an idea that has been in my head for quite a while:
 
I would like to create a new Sellaband account for Vegas Dragons in an effort to raise $50,000 US to make a  "Vegas Dragons live in Europe" CD and DVD.
 
The money would be used to:
 
*Hire venues
 
*Record and film gigs in Europe (Holland, England, Germany, Austria and hopefully Latvia and Italy).
 
*Accomodation and flights for the band 
 
*Help promote our Vegas Dragons Sellaband CD in Europe
 
The CD will feature many of our new Sellaband songs and the older favourites played live. It will also contain a couple of new studio songs. It will come with a DVD which will contain many of the "behind the scenes" of recording, rehearsing and the best bits of the Europe gigs.
 
Believers who buy a part will be entitled to one copy of the CD/DVD as per usual plus a ticket to the gig plus an afterparty where they can get all their Vegas Dragons Sellaband CDs signed.
 
I desperately want to go to Europe again and catch up with my friends there. I WAS saving hard to come over and sign all of our Sellaband CDs in March but I thought it may be more practical to try and raise enough money to bring the entire band over and really put on some great shows in late 2008 or early 2009. I would be making this Sellaband account my new savings account and be putting my travelling money into it.
 
The Vegas Dragons Sellaband CD should be ready for release by April. We will spend the rest of the year promoting the CD in Australia and begin gigging regularly in Sydney and other cities in Australia trying to raise our profile and that of Sellaband. It would be good if we could point new Sellaband people in the direction of our new Sellaband account.
 
Once we gig regularly with the new songs we will become a very tight unit and be ready for a great tour of Europe. I am also hoping that there will be added interest in a Vegas Dragons tour once the CDs goes into shops in Europe.
 
I am still very keen to have a Sellaband XL account down the track to raise $100,000 for our next studio effort but would like to work on this live CD concept.
 
I would very much like to have your thoughts on this.
 
I will not go ahead with this idea without Sellaband's blessing.
