Velez exists since 1998. The band started playing covers and their own versions of classical songs of brazilian music, specially bossa nova, jazz clubs, small theatres, etc. In the year 2000 they had the oportunity of recording their first Cd of original songs. Their first album, “Natural”, was realesed on January of 2001 by a German independent Record Company named GLM-Musikverlag/Fine music! The album was distributed not only in Germany but also in Austria and Poland as well as in several countries in Asia (China, Taiwan, Malasia, Indonisia and Japan).
The second album, “Luz in the night”, was realesed on August 2005 by Ward Records, a Japanese Record Company, and distributed by Columbia/Sony.
Note that Velez are currently unsigned and recording their 3rd album on their own!
Velez are:
Teresa Velez, singer, born on 11 August of 1962 in Lisbon – Portugal -started her career singing in Clubs and small Theatres. In 1992, together with Markus Britto, musician and composer, started working on original songs folowing the style of Bossa Nova and Bossa Jazz.
Markus Britto, guitar player, born on 25 of April 1955 in Rio de Janeiro – Brasil - started his career in 1981 as a professional musician and composer working mostly as a studio musician. In 1984 he recorded an album with a band - 6L6 – that was released by Polygram, this band made several tours in Brasil. In 1990 he came to Portugal where he was invited to work with some well known portugueses bands.
Henry de Sousa, drumer, born on 31 of August of 1959 in Kimatt – Canada -started his career in 1979 with Carlos Bechegas Quartet. Until today he has been invited to work with well known portuguese musicians (Carlos Alberto Moniz, José Mário Branco, Carlos Mendes, Fernando Tordo, Rao Kyao, etc. ) as well as forigner musicians (Mike Carr, Fredo Mergne, Steve Neil Trio, Doug Jordan, David Gausden and Eddie Gaultz). In 1998 together with Teresa Velez and Markus Britto recorded their first Cd Demo.
Ernesto Leite, pianist, born on 26 of April 1974 in Bruxels – Belgium -, started his career in 1992 as a professional musician and composer. He has been working with several well known portuguese musicians (Rui Veloso, Luis Represas Paulo Gonzo, etc.) as well as a musical conductor and arranger of Tv’s novel’s soundtrack for Television.

Just wanted to pop in and give you a heads up on Sommersby's October Competition!
If you haven't already heard, the competition (hot on the heels of his recent neck-in-neck September fiesta) will offer 20 parts for the winner and is open to all artists that have between $9999 and $0 in budget.
