Band's History:
Viridian was formed in Spring 2002 by guitarist Krzysztof "Faza" Wiszniewski (former member of bands such as Wrinkled Fred, Strefa Czasu and Braintrust). He was joined primarily by musicians he had worked with previously Nina Garncarczyk (ex-Braintrust), Marcin Karolak (ex-Strefa Czasu) and Paweł "Shaman" Karle, whom he'd played shanties with in pubs at the time. The first line-up was rounded off by Jerzy Mroczek on bass and Marcin Włusek on drums.
The first Viridian concert took place in January 2003 at Warsaw's Nemo club. Also on the bill were Naamah, Orbita Wiru and Haras. That Spring, the band recorded a four-song demo. Two of those songs "Panna Anna" (the instrumental version) and "Jutro" were then used in the soundtrack of the short-feature film "Czerwony 55", directed by Agnieszka Gomułka.
Shortly after recording the demo, Marcin Włusek left the band due to health reasons. He was replaced by Marek Kułakowski. The new line-up played a number of gigs in 2004, most notably the Pruszków Days and the closing spot of "Monarowisko 2004" - a charity concert for the patients at Monar - Poland's largest drug-rehab organisation.
Sadly, "Monarowisko" was the last performance by this line-up. Jurek Mroczek and Marek Kułakowski both left the band following this concert. They were replaced in September 2004 by bassist Jarek Michalski and drummer Piotr "Tonic" Konarski. The revamped band recorded the "Through The Looking Glass EP" at Warsaw's Serakos studio in October of that year. That same month Viridian gave their first performance with the new line-up at the Progresja club in Warsaw. The band also appeared at the "Rockowania 2004" festival in Mława in December.
In 2005, Viridan continued to gain momentum. The band regularly performed in clubs and did some open-air concerts. In July, Viridian played at the "Rockowe Ogródki" festival in Płock and in August closed the rock day of "Lato nad Pilicą" in Warka. That summer, the band also recorded the "Peter Pan/World In Your Hands" single at Warsaw's Złota Skała & Kokszoman studio. Once again however, summer brought about a change in the band's line-up. This time, founder-member Marcin Karolak departed the ranks. After a long search he was replaced by Anna Turwoń and Viridian took to the stage once again in January 2006.
The 2006 concert season was Viridian's strongest to date, with performances at the Rock May Festival in Skierniewice and at the Toruń gig on the Abracadabra Gothic Tour 2006, supporting Closterkeller. Towards the end of the year, the band also shot it's first video for "Before You Leave", off the "Through The Looking Glass EP".
More line-up changes were in store for 2007: Jarek Michalski was replaced by Marcin "Aval" Rybak and Anna Turwoń by Michał "Sephiroth" Golicz.
This year brought more live shows and the second video, "Panna Anna". In summer the band celebrated its 5th birthday.
In January 2008 Viridian won the first prize in the metal channel on OurStage with the song "Restless".

The show at No Mercy club was fantastic! The audience was the best.
You can see the photos here.
Some of them were taken by our believer, swnw. Thanks a lot!
Of course we want to thank all of you! It's great to have people like you around!
Rock on!
23-04 2008
We played a great gig recently, in a town near Warsaw, called Sulejówek.
The Jungle club is small, not much bigger than our rehearsal room. But the people was full of fire and enthusiasm. Wild headbanging and raised voices of the happy audience is what every hard rock and metam musician needs to feel happy :)
And now for something completely different: we're planning to record some songs again to give you more of our music. Some of you are with us no matter what, and I guess you have the right to know that we are not fooling around, but working.
So don't go anywhere!
Thanks for believing!

We're not dead yet!
We are working on a new songs, preparing for gigs, and stuff like that.

Viridian won the semi-finals in Metal and entered the finals (battle of the winners of every channel).
This time something really big is on the line - $5000. No matter who will win we are very proud to be, where we are, among the best.
Many thanks to our Fans and Friends for their help and support!

Well, things sure change fast!
Today "Restless" reached 1st place in metal. So it's our third song on top of OurStage this month.
Wow...:)
23-01 2008
Hello, guys!
There are a few news about Viridian we want to share with You.
First of all - OurStage. Strange things are happening with our band there :)
After "Fool's Carnival" had spent a short time on the first position of hard rock,
"Restless" went up to second place in metal some time ago and seems to like it a lot :)
Not that we mind or something :)
Apart from that, our brand new, fresh looking, fancy official site is almost ready to launch. So stay tuned to find out what it looks like :)
Keep rockin'!!!
15-01 2008
Unfortunately "Peter Pan" went all the way down to 36th place. But! "Fool's Carnival" went up to 5th place in hard rock category, and "Restless" to the same position in metal.
And now for something completely different:
here are some photos from our last gig in Karuzela!

10-01 2008
Still number one! :) I hope we can hold to that position for a little longer :D
On January 13th we're taking part in the 16th final of Wielka Orkiestra Świątecznej Pomocy (The Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity), world famous Polish charity event.
See Shows for details :)
Keep rockin'!!!
8-01 2008 We have just achieved our first chart success! The place: Ourstage.com - the online music and video voting community. The category: Hard Rock. The song: Peter Pan. We have taken the top spot! :D
Experience shows that this might not last until the competition finals (at the end of January), but it's a nice feeling all the same.
It's Alright With Me
Well mistletoe and wine are both okay
But I can kiss you every minute every day
If we want to we can drink wine every night
Then roll between the sheets until the morning light
If it makes you feel good baby it's alright with me
Yeah presents are nice to give and get
Just don't you let the Christmas season blow your head
Better something simple and straight from the heart
Than fancy stuff a-spilling from the shopping cart
If it makes you feel good baby it's alright with me
I won't take you to church don't ask me please
I'm not the kind of woman to pray on my knees
The sight of me might give the priest a heart attack
And people would be whispering behind our backs
Christmas lights and sparkles yeah they're all the rage
But the spotlight's so much brighter when I'm up there on stage
It's the season of happines and love and cheer
Though I'd rather stay nice and merry all the year
But if it makes you feel good baby it's alright with me
It's the night when hooligans all leave their baseball bats
Go visit their grannies wearing sweaters and hats
I can walk without fear of being bashed on the head
But some stupid drunk driver might knock me dead
All those things are nice but you oughta know
They must be done with feeling not just for show
Let me celebrate it in my own way
And you won't see me a-hiding on a Christmas day
A merry rockin' Christmas is alright with me
A merry rockin' Christmas is alright with...
16-12 2007 At last! Our Christmas song and video "It's Alright With Me" are ready! Me made it in time! It was quite an experience, because we recorded the song ourselves in our rehearsal room. The video was filmedwith two digital photo cameras by Anna and Janusz Wachowicz (thank you, guys, you are the greatest!) and edited by me.
We hope you enjoy it!

10-12-2007 Hi!
As we promised - we have some photos from our last gig for you!

It was awesome! People were great, we had a lot of fun!
8-12-2007 Hello!
We uploaded the three other songs, so the second half of Viridian Believers' Charts starts today!
Make your choice and send us a message.
We play a gig tonight. We just found out that there's no stage lights in the club... and it is really hard to believe.
Nothing, except for a poor performance, ruins a gig as much, as the lack of colored illumination.
Oh well... We're gonna have fun anyway!
Keep rockin'!!!
Nina
5-12-2007 Welcome and have a nice... panic!
It's December.
The 5th.
It means... WE HAVE ONLY 11 DAYS TO FINISH OUR CHRISTMAS SONG!
"Ok, breathe, slow down, take it easy" - that's what I keep repeating to myself all the time :)
Well, maybe there's no need to be so nervous. We will make it on time, I'm sure. No. I know it.
We're also preparing ourselves for a gig, which will take place on Saturday. We were informed about it on Monday, and it was a lttle bit unexpected, but if they want us to give a show, we will give a show.
So we promise some new pictures as soon as possible, the Christmas song will be ready very, very soon and remember: we're changing the tracklist this Friday and we wait for your votes!
And one last thing: have you noticed? Only 20 more dollars and we hit 300!
Sugar, spice and everything nice from

It is the Christmas contest song. It'll be ready soon, and we hope you will like it!
We are also working on the new design of our website.
Stay tuned and keep believing! :)
Nina
P.S. Some new photos will be added soon!
17-11-2007 Welcome back!
Thanks for all Your help. We've reached $260 - just a little more and
our album will be out! :P It's an incredible feeling to discover that
people from all around the world appreciate our music. It's amazing
that they really like what we've been cooking up during late night
hours in dark and stuffy rehearsal studios or our own rooms for the
most part of the last five years.
One day you come up with a riff or two words of a chorus, the next day
you play it at a gig for sixty people and then you never know when
people get to know it worldwide. It's a process that will never cease
amazing me, though I realize that without the use of Internet that
wouldn't have happened as easily. Of course Rome wasn't built in a day
- getting to where we are now took us eight long years, five of which
we've been building up this band. It's current line-up has formed just
this summer.
We're proud that we've made something You all like, that you put Your
faith in us and that You allow us to reach our final destination.
Many thanks!
Nina
02-11-2007 The first thing I'd like to do is to thank all those who became our
believers. Acquiring 130$ and getting to the fifth place among Polish
SellaBand competitors was a very nice surprise. The person who should
be thanked most is Woodstock - becoming a band's first believer takes
a lot of faith and good will.
As a band, we decided to begin writing a blog. There are many
different things happening with and about our band. If you like our
music, you might also want to get behind the scenes and take a peek
into it's making.
We share a collective dream. Just like fairy-tale characters, we're
stubborn and we want no other path of life. It's no easy ride, but
we're not into the roles of good citizens. All we want is rock'n'roll.
I myself have begun dreaming about music and the scene when I was a
few years old. I have drawn comic stories where I pictured myself as a
tall, lean superstar - the genre didn't matter that much.
My father, an ex-frontman of Cedrus, a long split-up Polish band, has
taught me to be sensitive to music, to accept and appreciate it's
every kind. He fed me with Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Rainbow, Iron
Maiden, Genesis and Jean Michel Jarre at the same time. When I was 10
or 11, he gifted me with and old cassette tape. It had Jeff Wayne's
War of the Worlds radio-play recorded on it. I've been listening to
that recording ever since - not only the music, but the very same
cassette, even though I own the CD with the same on it. There's some
of the radio-play's magic in that very cassette. When I think about
it, it makes me sad that people don't respect their music anymore.
They get it for completely free and get used to it. Less and less of
them know how it is to wait for a favourite band's new release. The
mix of tension and excitement just before they can finally go to the
shop and come out with a shiny disc in hand, it's booklet still
bearing the fragrance of fresh print.
I realize that the albums are expensive, especially in Poland, where
young people living on their own have to pay up to 10% of their
monthly income for a latest release. The interest rates of the large
music shops and their distributors could render you unconscious. But
still, even when I can't afford a CD, I try buying at least a tape -
even though it's obsolete and fragile. That's my own way of paying my
favourite bands for their efforts and their job.
I've dreamed all my life about such things as a collection of my own
records, or my own face on the cover of the Rolling Stone magazine.
How could I give up after all those years of hard work and dreaming? I
sometimes think that I'd rather be dying from some incurable disease
so that a kind-hearted millionaire would fulfill my dream and put me
on a huge stadium stage, in front of thousands. But I'm not dying,
thank God, so all I can do is to, slowly and determinedly, push
onwards.
Maybe SellaBand will help me in making my dream come true. Maybe it
won't. But if it will, then when I step out onto a stage on new
Wembley, with Freddie's spirit beside me, I will be sure to hold out a
hand and give a wave to all of you who were my fairy godmothers in
this endeavour. We shall see. But since we began the trip together,
let's stay together until it's very end :)
Best wishes,
Nina

faith in us and that You allow us to reach our final destination.
Many thanks!

Best wishes,
Nina

You brought a lot of quality to Sellaband and backed that up with a super Christmas song and video. Many good wishes for the future. I feel sure you could be hugely successful. |

Classy, tight, heavy rock from Poland with memorable tunes. Great riffs and melodies back a ballsy female lead singer in Nina, who can keep it sweet when she needs to. It's old school, but that's what I like about it. 'Fools Carnival' is standout brilliant with a fabulous opening segment harking back to the best that the Ian Gillan Band delivered in its heyday. |
