When Can I Buy a C8 Z06?
The Chevrolet Corvette (C8) is the eighth generation of the Corvette sports car manufactured by American automobile manufacturer Chevrolet. It was introduced for the 2020 model year as the first mid-engine Corvette in its history, and replace the front-engine C7 models produced since 2014. Development of the C8 began in 2015 under chief engineer Tadge Juechter, following concerns that future emissions and fuel economy regulations would make it difficult to maintain performance with a front engine/rear-wheel drive platform.
As with previous generations, General Motors sought input from racing professionals during its development process; Pratt & Miller served as Chevrolet’s official partner in developing a new race car based on the C8 chassis to compete in GTLM class of IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and FIA World Endurance Championship beginning in 2020.
The production version of the C8 was unveiled on July 18, 2019 at an event held at Kennedy Space Center’s Launch Complex 39A, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11 Moon landing mission which launched from that site. The first customer delivery took place on February 3, 2020.
Three trim levels are offered: 1LT, 2LT, and 3LT; each including progressively more standard features and luxury amenities. A Z51 Performance Package is available for all three trims that adds various mechanical upgrades such as Brembo brakes, Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires, magnetic ride control dampers, an electronic limited slip differential (eLSD), and an upgraded cooling system; it also lowers ride height by 10 mm (0.4 in). An optional FE4 suspension package further improves handling characteristics but is not compatible with Z51 due to differences in spring rates and stabilizer bars.
The Stingray is powered by GM’s LT2 6.2L V8 engine producing 495 hp (369 kW) and 470 lb⋅ft (637 N⋅m) of torque when equipped with Z51; 0–60 mph times are estimated at 2.9 seconds with launch control engaged using Pirelli P Zero tires supplied as standard equipment on all models except base 1LT which uses Goodyear Eagle F1 tires instead.
